Fished the lower end of the stream in changing weather. Water clear and some limited hatch, the odd fish rising. Managed to catch one trout right at the lower end of the beat. Lovely part of the river, had to leave when the heavens opened.

Trout responded well to nymph, sad to see mink in abundance, never a good sign. River in great condition, with sporadic hatches through afternoon but few fish responding yet.

What a difference a week(day) makes. I sense a song coming on!!! At 22deg, 0.6m and balmy (humidity was 90%), I was expecting a good day. Not so!! A brief blizzard of gnats heralded frantic acrobatics from my accompanying Grey Wagtails, but no rising trout, so I went down the Woodstream with spiders and nymphs. No offers.
Decided to fish the Rock pool, and one trout rising caught my eye.
Tried March Brown, Yellow May Dun, Tupps, and Wulff dry flies with no offers. Reduced size to 14 Dark Olive which produced an instant take and a fish of half pound. This proved to be my only fish, as a succession of thunderstorms, and heavy rain, curtailed the day. So disappointing after last weeks bag of 10 in much inferior conditions.
That sums up fishing!!!

Most trout came to the nymph. Some nice trout up to 12 inch. Also this beat has seen some clearance work, thanks to WUF.

Arrived at 10am and fished till 12.30. The river coloured a bit as the morning went on from the overnight thunderstorms. Best fly hatch I have seen this season although the fish weren't impressed with no rises seen. Fished with 8 foot Tenkara rod and small Tungsten bead nymph. All fish caught in the heads of the pools.

Only had half a days fishing, Mick the Ghillie once again put me on the fish in both the Island and Vanstone but no luck. The fish that showed in the Vanstone was very big, I liked to be around when he takes. Once again great day.

Enjoyable days fishing, only fell in once. Small hatch in the am which slowed by 11.30am but a slight rise in levels and a bit of colour helped the nymph fishing. All fish released best 1 1/4lb.

First time out with a fly rod in over a year. The fishing was pretty hard going with little showing but managed 2 small brownies and 3 parr all to a small PTN. This is a very quiet and remote beat with plenty of birdlife. Highlight yesterday was a pair of Pied Flycatchers.
In the early evening I did witness some rather suspicious behaviour. A man emerged from the wood on the opposite bank at the Penrhiw Stream wearing a ppe type respirator and carrying a bag. He knelt down by the water and was reaching into the bag when he noticed me and hastily beat a retreat into the wood. A few minutes later I witnessed the same person again approach the water below the Penrhiw Gutter and proceed to remove something from the bag and disturb the water. I made myself visible and the person again beat a very hasty retreat into the wooded area. I have reported this incident to NRW as I can only conclude that the bag contained some noxious substance to necessitate the need for a respirator and gloves.

Lovely stretch with more than enough water for our two rods to go at over the course of the day.
We arrived to find a small hatch of upwings taking place, overcast, with a slight tinge of colour in the water . . . . promising. . . . . until that was the sun decided to make an appearance and rain up stream coloured the water further, with large amounts of algae/debris being washed down which pretty much killed any hope of a hatch and rising fish. We persevered by prospecting the faster runs with heavy nymphs and were rewarded with 2 fish. One small and the other a lovely plump trout of 1lb 6oz (both returned).
Will return in hopefully more favourable conditions.
