Lovely time (although only had a couple of hours) as ever on this wonderful beat. Lost one fish. Lots of fly life about, which was great to see. Pleasure to meet David and his wife.

Water Level extremely low so had to go out into the middle to try and fish, the wind was quite strong out in the middle which made the fishing almost impossible, I did not like this river its to large I think it would suit Salmon fishers really.

First time fishing this beat and I must admit it's a cracking stream. Walking down to the start of the beat, I was unsure how the day would go as it was my first outing of the new season. Started fishing at 11am using upstream Baetis nymph, using a cut down 3lb tapered copolymer leader to 5ft and 2 to 2.5ft of fluorocarbon tippet (3lb) which worked a treat as I caught a few WBT and 3 OOS Grayling. A bit later on, moving upstream I then switched to the dry, as there were plenty of LDO's hatching and fish rising. Same leader set up but changed the fluorocarbon tippet to 3lb copolymer and used a cdc foam dun #17.
Good day had 11 WBT and 3 OOS Grayling. I will return!

Bright conditions with the river running low, most of the wadable stretches below knee height. Two small trout taken on a parachute adams, both about 5". Switched to a Goldhead PTN and bagged a brace of OOS grayling, the second a whopping 2.5lb must rate as a monster from this small river.

The river was down to its bones and the fishing was very hard. Nothing rising, but they never do here! No sign of any fish and thought a blank was on the cards.
Walked the full beat both sides, which if you know this water, you'll also know that's hard work! Concentrated on the pocket water and saved my blushes with a tiny grayling, and then out of nothing a slight pull on my tiny tungsten hairs ear produced a stunning fish of 22 inches which I would think was around 3 and half pound.

This is a really great fishery, great location, scenery and plenty of fish in lots of sections of the beat. Although I landed 4 fish (2 no. 8-9" and 2 no. 10-12")I was having one of those days. I hooked over a dozen, the rest of which all came off the hook before netting. I kept the line taught, checked the hooks (barbless); they were sharp, I changed the flies and still the fish kept coming off! I was obviously doing something wrong, perhaps striking away from the fish but they all stayed on for a while before un-hooking themselves... Very tricky conditions today, windy with strong gusts, this beat is quite exposed, making casting a 4# with a team of spiders an a 16' leader tough and managing the line / detecting takes difficult.

A bright sunny spring day and a joy to be on the river. There was a strong cold wind all day and lovely but unrelenting sunshine. Very few fish showed on the surface (to be precise 4 rises all day) I was fortunate to catch one, a 2lb strong fat fish (how quickly they get into condition). Another fish came to a nymph in fast water. There were a few LDOs and even fewer grannom stuttering off in the middle of the day. Most curious event was a chaffinch flying down and grabbing my dry fly of the river. Luckily it didn't impale itself and flew off the wiser.
