Struggled all day trying all manner of nymphs but managed to pick up two late afternoon around 6-8 inches, more by luck than judgement. Good to get out in the fresh air though, Happy new year.

2 Grayling

Had at least a dozen grayling and as many again come off - a problem I seem to have whenever I fish for them. The average size of fish seems to be significantly smaller than a few years ago. None the less it was nice to be back on one of my favourite WUF beats after a number of years.

1 Trout, 12 Grayling

Just one 6 ounce fish between us to a deep nymph. No other touches.

Tried both banks for pike but not a bite all day despite perfect conditions.

Again very cold, minus 2 when arrived, fished until 3.15pm but no bites at all. Had a chat with Colin who was very helpful but the weather was against me. Will return.

Enjoyable day's fishing in cold, bright conditions on a very attractive beat. River running fast and quite clear. Bites hard to come by but I caught two smallish but beautifully conditioned Grayling, one 10.5" & one 9" long, to float-fished maggot from two different swims upstream of the access bridge. Good views of Kingfisher & Dipper added to the day's enjoyment.

Very cold day but dry. Bites few and far between but 5 small chub made trip worthwhile.

5 Chub

Very cold, tried a few likely spots but the grayling seem to be shoaled up somewhere else. Nothing caught.

Very cold day. Two anglers found that new breathable waders are not so good on a freezing day like this one.
Long search for the grayling and the old neoprene clad angler found them at just after 3pm behind the church, catching seven before packing up at 4pm. Best fish about a pound or so.
