Fishing:Winter Grayling

All grayling (and OOS trout) taken on heavy nymphs and bugs in the high (0.8m), slightly coloured river. All fish returned with the largest being a 1.5lb grayling. Not easy in challenging conditions but a lovely day in great surroundings.

River about 1m up from previous day due to rain. Tried several swims with pellet and luncheon meat but had no bites. I can only assume drop in temperature + rain water had put fish off.

River high and cumming up fast with lots of debris. Over 3 feet in 6 hours. Hooked 6 good fish over the day but only managed to land 1 4lb chub and 1 6lb barbel due to the strength of flow. 5-6oz to hold bottom. All fish taken on bait tech hybrid hook baits over hemp in middle to lower end of beat. Great beat with great access. Banks abit slippy when wet so take care. There was a large otter at the top end early morning. Many thanks again to the wuf.

1 Barbel, 1 Chub

After a wet drive, it was a great afternoon in depths of Wye valley in autumn. Much better than work! 1 chub approx 3lb and a 4lb 6oz barbel on pellet from mid section.

First time out on this beat. With a coloured & rising river, I fought for the 3 I had, finding it hard to wade or get through the wooded areas.

A hard day's bait fishing in a heavily swollen Irfon. Conditions were awful and the flow was as brutal and relentless as the morning rain! Lost more rig than we caught fish - One small, barely legal grayling and four tiny but well conditioned brown trout. (Does a 1.5 metre section of oak count?)
Love this stretch but nature dealt us the ace of spades today - Early finish and a hot coffee were the highlights.
