It was near perfect, the water was droping, but getting cold and the water was ver coloured. We tried everything from hitched flys and sunray shadows to large brass tubes and of course Aly's and cascades and green Highlanders. We saw some very large fish, but caught nothing. Apart from the presence of a large Aberdeen Angus bull the beat is very accessable and well kept.

Several fish seen moving in lower Erwood Pool, including one very large fish estimated at 25lb+.

Not the best of conditions to fish in but an enjoyable day on a lovely beat.

3 Barbel, 5 Chub

Tried several swims, various methods, various baits, one Chub approx 2lbs on meat, 2 Dace on maggot.

River in good condition, no salmon seen. 2 Trout and a very playful Otter that followed my fly all the way across the river to the dangle!

Lovely to see some water at last. Saw some running fish but none stopped to play.

Last blog for the Monday rods. Allowed Rupert Banks to fish the day with us and what a red letter day for him, landing one trout on a cascade fishing for salmon followed by two salmon at Woodstream. The first was a good fish of 8lb, the second a monster 23lb cock fish which was released. (See ID 18772 report)
John Lewis caught and released a 15lb hen taken above the Rock on a single hook yellow/copper FC.
I had no luck!!! 3 fish for our last Monday of the season. Look forward to next season.

1 Salmon

Thanks must go to Lynn Thomas for encouraging me to fish Chainbridge today rather than somewhere else.
Within 20 minutes of starting to fish I landed a clean 8lb hen fish on a Red Francis Brass tube fly. Later in the day and after a 35 minute battle a 38.5" Cock fish, estimated at 23lb was landed on fly again, this time a Cascade, to complete a truly memorable day. My first and second Usk Salmon.

2 Salmon

All fish small. Heavy falls of leaves made it a no go with the dry fly, caught on spiders. Met a nice salmon angler.
