16.00 to dark. Waded out from Tump Park on Lydbrook side to island and spent 2hrs fishing luncheon meat, bouncing down riffle below island for 5 chub in 2 to 4lb size.
At 18.00 waded to Home beat bank (it is possible, no more than knee deep right across river) and fished from the cattle drink area to shallows at top of island using feeder and H Pellet. 3 Chub of which 2 were both 5lb 10oz, and 3 large barbel, 9lb 13oz, 9lb 15oz and 10 lb 6oz.
I waded into the cattle drink area and stirred it up and fished in no more than 2ft deep of water 10yds below it. I have seen large barbel in this area from road on Lydbrook side but have failed to connect with them from Lower Courtfield beat. Possible now that there are fewer canoes the fish will feed more regularly in these shallows.

Last visit to this stream this year, to find the trout extremely aware of anything slightly unusual, like a rod and fisherman trying to be invisible.... Tempted 3 at 6"-9" on paras, and pleased with that on another glorious day in the hills.

First time I've fished this river and I was pleased with everything. Colin the baliff (gilly) was a godsend on his own a lovely man who can and will put you on the hot spots. I had a brilliant time. Most swims are easy accessible. I'll be back thank you. P.s. river average level and I fished using a swim feeder.

I used wet and dry flies and caught nothing - I had a couple of nibbles. The river was very low and I was fishing in the middle of the day.
For your general interest, I was fishing the night before on a friends beat on the Wye and caught eight small fish - one was a 1lb grayling. I went fishing at Ashford House yesterday and again caught nothing - same conditions but I did see some big fish from a high bank. Today I am fishing at Peterstone Hall on the Usk.

River low, but made wading easier on some pools. Trout caught on home tied black bug, and GRHE nymphs. Nothing rising.

River low and clear, disappointed to find so few swims available, most of the riverbank is overgrown making access to most swims near on impossible. All fish taken on feeder with pellet. Stayed at Flanesford (5th time), accomodation excellent as usual.
