Water was looking good and I was quite hopeful for a salmon. Started with a Cascade and made several changes through the day, but I did not see any sign of a salmon. There was plenty of fly life and lots of rising fish so I changed to the trout rod in the late afternoon and had some fun with the trout and grayling. Best grayling about 14 inches and the trout included what was probably the smallest fish I have ever caught on a fly!

First visit to Ty-Newydd, booked by a friend. A great day out in a stunning location. Water was clear with a bit of everything. Took a couple of small grayling on a weighted GRHE in the fast water before hooking a small brown 6-8 inches. Worked our way up the beat in the afternoon again picking up several grayling. My companion for the day hooked into a couple of larger fish around 1.5lbs but didn't quite manage to land!
Had an interesting liaison with an otter around 3pm, within 10ft of my rod tip.
One small issue on otherwise a good day was a young man encouraging his two dogs into a pool by throwing sticks and lumps of drift wood (dogs barking constantly) fished the pool later without a touch.
All fish returned.

Low clear water conditions. Picture post card spot with church as back drop. Took fish late on pellet and feeder. Struggled all day exploring all the pegs. Owners came for a chat late in day and some good advice.

Very enjoyable beat to fish, easy access to most of the pools, saw 1 salmon show. Caught a 9lb pike. There were a few canoes coming down but no where near as many as some of the lower beats I've fished & being a Bank Holiday weekend.
Many thanks again Wye & Usk Foundation for ease of booking & an enjoyable days fishing.

Reasonable conditions, river clear and a fair hatch. Located one or two rising fish in a few awkward locations but couldn't manoeuvre into position stealthily enough!

Um, interesting.
Although I had 6 fish, they all came from the same pool (Lower Craig Llyn) with not so much as a touch from the rest of the beat. All fish on a tungsten nymph; four on the way down river, two on the way back up. Possibly a day too late/too soon; as the river was running low and gin clear. Said clarity made the vertiginous drop off on the Lower Craig Llyn Pool even more scary; 18 inches to 10 feet (or more) in a single unwary step - frightening.
