This beat certainly lives up to its description: it is an absolutely stunning stretch of upper Wye. The rain that had been threatened for overnight didn't seem to have amounted to much and the river was still pretty low and clear. There was some cloud cover, but most of the day was bright and warm so we, like the fish, were looking for some shade.
It was very much an on-off day. There was a little flurry of activity at around 10.00 and another in the late afternoon. We were unable to stay for what might well have been a much better late evening. Even when they were active, the fish seemed in a very picky mood. They weren't taking flies off the surface and most of our fish came to weighted nymphs. We had six trout and three grayling between us. The best trout was just over a pound and the best fish of the day a beautiful grayling of around a pound and three quarters - worth the drive just for that fish really!

3 chub to 5lb and 2 barbel to 7lb all on feeder and small pellet, bites were very timid hence smaller hooks and baits although there were plenty of knocks.
2 poachers who claimed they were told they could purchase day tickets on the bank were very politely told to pack up and seen off the water. Lots of canoes generally fine and gave you room.

Only seen 1 salmon show in Martins Pool. Fished hard early morning then fished through again late afternoon with lots of canoe activity in the afternoon. I thoroughly enjoy fishing this beat with the easy access to the pools by driving along the trail.

Please note the catch above was for both days that we were booked on, Friday 4th and Sat 5th.
River level recorded at Ross 0.38 Meters. Weather warm and Sunny, best fishing was early morning/late evening. Whilst the fishing was very good it was like fishing on a building site with the generator noise. I booked both days on the understanding that the generator would only run for up to 2 hours per day. On Friday it started at 9.15am and was only switched off approx 2pm, only then because I rang the Wye and Usk to complain. The lady that answered was very helpful and she got in contact with a Mr Edwards who came down to see us. He was very friendly and helpful and apologised. Don't know how long it went on for on the Saturday as we moved as far away as possible and didn't get to fish where we wanted. There is no way that we will fish that stretch again because of the relentless noise.

WUF note - It does state on our website page that during periods of low water, an water abstraction pump maybe in operation for 2-4hrs per day.

22 Barbel, 4 Chub
