Reading all the recent catch reports it seemed that the barbel would be crawling up the banks! however, our day was the hottest day of the year, being 31 degrees. We expected the going to be tough but we weren't disappointed with the 4 beautiful chub we had in the evening. It was nice to fish a new beat of the wye and it gave us a good idea of the river's pools and snags which is invaluable when fishing in higher water conditions. We will return!

River very low. Fished early to 2.30pm and never had a bite in any swim. Intended to stay late but driven off the river by kids and canoes. Never book fishing in a heatwave on the 1st wk of school hols again.

Floatfished bread and sweetcorn to take a good number of roach, rudd, chub and one common of 7.5lbs. The type of fishing we enjoy, you never could tell what the next fish would be and always in anticipation of it being another carp, the only one having come early on in the session.
It was a sweltering hot day but the bites came throughout. Plenty of carp showing on the surface.
We found this a very pleasant, well stocked lake and can't wait to come back.
Again the Foundation's service was exemplary.

River very low and clear. Started at dawn and fished a number of pre baited swims through until dusk. Blank saved by one solitary small chub on halibut pellet. Very tough.

Another poor day on this beautiful stretch of water. Fished near the orchard and also in the lower meadow. A few small chub but no sign of the barbel anywhere. The weather was again very hot and the water level even lower than the previous Wednesday. It started to thunder in the distance about 8pm so it was prudent to start packing up and wonder where all the barbel had been hiding. I will return to fish again in the future and hope that the river levels are a little higher next time.

River very low zero on the Lucksall web cam.
Chub fed from the start, 31 between us. 7 Barbel towards the end of the day including my son's first Wye double.
Good to see Colin in fine health and form, thank you for your guidance.

Another lovely beat with some nice swims, unfortunately the fish didn't want to know. One barbel of about 3 pounds caught late on, maybe if we had stayed later we could have caught a few more, but after a full day in the heat, a few cold beers and a nice meal at the Greenman at Fownhope (highly recommended) seemed more appealing. Look forward to returning to this beat in more favourable conditions.

This was the hottest day of the year, and fishing conditions very difficult. Started at the far end where the track runs out, but with no action. The Bayliff recommended Rope Pool, where I did catch 1 Chub approx 3lb in the early hours. Will return in Sept, when the river is higher.

One barbel of 7lb caught at 5.30am, and a 3lb chub an hour later. The feeding spells in the heatwave seem to be restricted to a couple of hours at first light, and the same late in the evening. Time now for anglers to learn a rain dance move.

Fished with G late evening down woodstream. I landed 4 and G 1 on partridge and orange and deerhair sedge 14 fished subsurface. Had fish on both. Reverted to dry at The Rock for last half hour and landed one at half pound and lost the best fish of around one and a half lb after a few minutes battle. Both took the wulff.
Great sport but need some rain to help the fishing.
