Fished the Hereford Anglers beat at Hereford. Height 0.32mts, river temp 58degF with the odd fish showing on Vineyard Beat. Fished the Usk Grub plus Flamethrower in size 8 but no takes. More rain needed to boost catches on the middle beats.

Early mist turning to bright sunshine. Small trout bit at daddy long legs on 4th cast. Never saw another rise on the river all day. Beautiful setting. Lower beats difficult to find. On arrival you have to call the office to open the gate (instuctions say they will open).

Five brown trout. Lots of fish in river and saw a couple of big trout. Conditions were against me - not a breath of wind and bright sun all day. The fish were very spooky as a result. No salmon seen did try for a couple of hours with the salmon rod but needs a bit of water. Very nice day, thanks.

Slow during the day, caught bleak and dace on the trotting rod. Managed a couple of barbel each in the end though, biggest 8lb 4oz and two nice chub. Two decent fish lost, one due to a hook pull and the other found a snag. Very enjoyable day!

I was doing well until something very big grabbed the bait, disappeared at warp factor eight and actually managed to snap the butt section of a Hardy Marksman feeder rod. Bait was pellet. I have no idea what it was, but I have caught 40lb carp that were nowhere near as powerful.

A lovely days fishing on my 1st visit to this beat. Arrived 9am fished until 2pm. Had a good variety of fish on heavy nymphs fished through the deeper sections. Best trout at 1 1/2lb, best grayling slightly smaller. All fish returned safely.
