One trout 1lb 12oz caught on a red body/gold and black blade mepps style spinner. Weather cold and overcast. 4 hits not hooked and one follow.

A cool wind made fishing difficult and no fly hatches. Tried various klinks and nymphs from 1-4pm with no success.

Just an afternoons fishing. It was a bit windy and there was not much fly about but I saw two fish rising. I managed a single fish to a dry fly.

Fish now starting to switch on to the Grannom. There was sporadic hatches from 10am with fish feeding on the top at these times. Fished pocket water with nymphs on a French leader to good affect.
I caught the better fish on dries apart from the best of the day which I estimate to be about 2lb. I can't really count it though as it was caught on the dangle while sorting out a tangle! It's amazing how often that happens...

18 Trout, 3 Grayling

River looked a good hight at the bottom of the beat and it looked promising. fished all the way through hard all day, Legg Meadow and the wood section as well. Nothing seen and no contact made. Same as last weekend on Wyebank, looked great fished a dream with the fly but again not a sign of a fish.

Winter chainsaws have been out in force coppicing the lower end of Hergest Court. The stretch up to the footbridge felt very different indeed; fenced, clear of obstacles and easy to fish. First fish within 5 minutes a handsome, strong Brown of about 11”. The next a few minutes later was 9”. Both to a weighted PTN fished upstream. No sign of fish on the surface here or on my morning progress through the upper section. Three further fish of 8-10” came to a Copper John. All the fish were returned. An increasingly strong downstream breeze started making life difficult for light tackle in the afternoon so I pottered away feeling more than content with my first outing of the Spring.

Fished with nymphs and switched to dry flies when I saw fish rising, but couldn't tempt them. Spent a very long time on one particular fish which became personal. A lovely beat with easy parking.

Good day with 6 fish caught around 1/2 lb to 1 lb. All but one caught on a GRHE. All fish released.

No fish seen rising, not many flies about. Missed a fish that rose to my dry fly and spooked several others during the day.

Blank. Surprising after the activity early in the week. No pulls, no fish seen. Conditions almost perfect. Salmon
