Beat:The Rectory Fishery

Fishing:Salmon

No. of Anglers:1

37" hen fish from the Mill Race. The fish took a 1/2 inch Ally's brass tube. Had a strong feeling there was a fish in the lie in the neck, moved it on 3rd cast, caught it on 4th, Great scrap with an 80m run at one point. Didn't cast again and rushed back to car happy to get back home and take over family duties.

Beat:Sugwas Court

Fishing:Coarse

No. of Anglers:3

Returned to Sugwas for a second day to find river slightly down from previous day and the weed that had been coming down the river had now eased.

All 3 anglers returned to the same pegs that they had fished previous day, angler 1 (myself) had 9 Barbel & 3 Chub, angler 2 had 3 Barbel & 3 Chub angler 3 had 3 Barbel & 1 Chub all fish were caught on boilies and pellets.

This is a nice beat with very good access and we will return again.

Beat:Wyebank

Fishing:Coarse

Caught the Barbel and one Chub on feeder with pellet in the morning (only fished 0530 to 1000), Barbel on 2lbs, Chub 3lbs 6oz. Evening 2 Chub largest just under 4lbs caught on trotted bread, good fun. Only wish had earlier advice as I was trying each likely spot. Had advice on last day from baliff, which helped see next return.

Area:Monnow

Beat:Monnow Valley

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:1

Day was enjoyable but not successful in that no fish were caught. Probably owing to the day being more of a learning curve than a day of fish capture. Tried a variety of small flies on water which appeared to be rising slowly.

We liked the beat; first time on it. The fishing was hard going, conditions very difficult and few fish caught.

Wow, in such low water a coloured hen salmon took my size 10 Allies double, like a train at 8.15pm in the Cafn. It raced around and jumped etc and I landed it 100 meters upstream. 13lbs. It swam away immediately released.
That was as good as it gets given the very tough conditions.
