Overcast and with a cold downstream wind, there was no activity for most of the morning. Moved one fish on a nymph and saw a fish move around 1pm.
At about 1:30pm a few Olives and March Browns started to come off the water, by 2pm it was a steady trickle and the trout started to rise. Had one fish of approx 2 pounds.
The hatch was short lived and things quietened down quickly.
Lost one more fish on a nymph.
An excellent day that summed up early season fishing.
Cold with no signs of life until an all too brief hatch brings the river to life. A very nice beat.

Two rods fished with all four fish falling to nymphs despite a few sporadic moments of surface activity when the sun came out. Really cold strong wind blowing downstream didn't help presentation but still couldn't ruin the day on such a lovely beat. Will be back when warmer weather finally arrives.

River running clear. Cold wind but sunny in the morning, clouding over with drizzle in the afternoon. Good hatches of March Brown in particular, but no surface activity by fish. Two big grayling (20 inches) were unhooked in water and swam off. One on a goldhead hare's ear under an indicator, the other on a wet march brown pattern fished on a dropper above a weighted fly. Of trout there was not a sign.

If someone was to ask me to imagine the perfect trout stream the Lugg at Lyepole would be it... The water hurries through series of rifles, runs and deep inviting pools through which you cant decide whether it better to cast a fly or jump in.
Practically speaking there was an ok rise from 1pm onwards of olives. I caught fish on quill nymphs with a black tungsten head, fished as the french do. Caught a cracking trout of about a 1.5 lb and a whopping oos Grayling nudging 2 lb. Only regret was not taking a fish on the dry. Thanks WUF

A springer of 37 inches nose to tail-fork (not much of a fork), 22lbs weighed in the net, just before lunch. Ran down to cover a fish that porpoised and took and black and gold FC 3rd cast. 2nd ever salmon, need a sit down.

Chilly day and I fished from 12 to 3 . Sadly saw no hatching flies or rising fish and drew a blank. However this is a beautiful and eminently fishable stretch to which I will happily return.

Cold morning (2C) and an early start on the bright day - fished the Rock Pool and The Chime from left bank but saw no sign of Salmon, tried small and large flies on shooting head / sink tip, easy able to cover the water with a 15' rod.

Moved down below the bridge for the afternoon to the trout pools , and landed a small Sea Trout (<1lb) and a beauty of a brown trout at 2lbs+. River about a foot above summer height - wading ok but care required especially below bridge towards e overhead cables where there are a couple of holes; nice beat though, will come again.

34inch fish, est. 17lb first ever salmon for Marcin Mankowski to spinner, he also lost another fish later in the afternoon. Some fish moving, great day out for our company, we met a season rod who showed us the hut and told a bit of a history of this beat, many thanks to that man. Thank you.
