Only three carp crashed on the surface all day (tight to the unfishable opposite bank), and only two other carp seen cruising around just below the surface. No bites or any feeding activity seen, despite warm day and perfect viewing conditions. There appears to be very few carp in this shallow lake, and not being able to fish one whole bank is a big disadvantage. Nice place to spend a day though.

I felt like a beginner on this piece of water. Basically 1.5 miles of tumbling, broken water. I need some lessons before tackling this one again. The pools were small and the water fast. Beautiful and remote valley. Beautiful stream. Will be back after taking some advice! Watch out for tree stump hidden in undergrowth at parking.

We were blessed with fine weather and a falling river. Almost every fly within season were seen, LDOs, March Brown, Hawthorn and clouds of Gnats. All fell to Olive F fly, best a fat 18" brown which took exception to being hooked and the net. A good water with a good mix of features, access to the left bank fishing needs commitment. A feature of the beat less attractive to the fly fisher is the public nature and easy access to all, a dog walker with Olympic standard labs could easily reach a ball thrown to mid stream in a single bound and as the temperature rose the local swimming pool lost out to the Usk, but it did however gain litter and baby wipes.

SM & PH tempted 9 WBT using PTN fished deep. When fish started rising, spiders and CDC emergers proved successful. River coloured from heavy rain a few days prior and running fast. Access is difficult along much of this beat and quite hazardous in some areas.

Brilliantly sunny for most of the day and much warmer than of late. Sporadic rises from the middle of the day onward proved to be out of season grayling, with one small fish falling to dry fly. An interesting beat with a mix of slow meanders and faster water.

Water cold and the brisk downstream breeze didn't help with rusty casting. A few olives appeared just before lunchtime and a few sedge fluttered about in pockets out of the breeze. Only saw 3 fish rise all day, connected with one briefly on a small klink. Fished a variety of nymphs and dry flies, but no fish caught. Nevertheless, nice to be out on the water again for the 1st time this year. Absolutely masses of caddis on the riverbed, expect there's fun to be had when things warm up.

Sporadic insect activity with some large olives. Rising fish difficult to tempt on dries. Fish came to nymphs under a dry. Lovely varied stretch of river. Fish reluctant to give themselves up!

Water like slightly turbid tea and still going down after the rain earlier in the week. Fished from midday until about 4 p.m. Large numbers of Olive Uprights from about 11.30 a.m. with the main hatch over by 2 p.m. but fly still around, and some fish still rising, until when I left. Fish taking nymphs and duns. Had 15 trout to 1.25lb and, through sheer incompetence, missed at least as many more. All fish taken on an Olive Upright Duck's Dun pattern.
