Another pleasant day on the Wye. River was up a fair bit and preventing the access to some swims. Started early and had nothing until late afternoon. Two barbel to about 6lb. Looking forward to getting back there.

P.S. Would be useful if more detailed parking details could be provided with booking information i.e. a diagram indicating where you should park. Not a problem for many locations.

Fished 1st day in the deeper swims at the lower end. River still running very high making fishing difficult. Managed 3 barbel and 6 chub with the best barbel just under 9lb. Second day fished above the orchard. River dropping and loosing some colour. Had 12 barbel and 3 chub.

Windy, grey day, river up about 7 foot and not leaving many places to fish as the banks are tree lined and the trees were way out into the river. I found a couple of places to fish but was casting blind never having been here before.
Second swim produced two fish to 9.13, one further lost to a snag then another bite and it went dead. All caught on garlic spam. Rain came at 5pm and it was time to go home, river having dropped about 6 inches.
Can't wait to get back here in better conditions.

Interesting day on Middle Hill. River rising at the start of the day and a few whole trees seen going past in the high water. Started fishing the top end and b.h. Had 2 barbel 8lb & 5lb. In the evening moved down below parsons tree stream and the rope b.h. Had 2 more barbel and lost 1. Around the 7 lb mark. I.w. had 6 barbel in an hour all between 6 & 8 lb mark. River rising and may be unfishable if this rain keeps up Monday. Word of warning banks are very slippery underfoot, put landing net handle in to check depth at one point and had over 8ft of water a foot out. Looking forward to returning. Thanks wuf.

My 2nd day the river was still raising and was 9 foot up by mid afternoon making fishing very hard and getting bait down difficult. I didn’t rush down to fish due to the conditions so started about 11am. I managed to find a bit of calmer water again with Don’s advice and caught 2 barbel in the afternoon sunshine the best being 8lbs 3oz 1 to a Richmond Drum Boilies. I also caught 2 eels. I packed up about 6.00pm as the weather closed in again and I had a long drive home. So in 2 short days I managed 4 barbel best being 8lbs 3oz and considering the conditions (which were poor to say the least) I was pretty pleased to catch them. Don is very helpful (thank you Don) and this is a lovely stretch of water to which I will return. For those travelling and needing a B&B I stayed at the Green Whale Tump (about 3 mils away) which I would recommend it is very fisherman friendly and is more like a chalet with its own access (great for early mornings late evenings) and an excellent breakfast.
