1 barbel between 3 of us very high and coloured we found a great slack, fish first cast but that was it for the day!

River in near flood Saturday morning - up 2ft on Friday when the water was deep brown and hammering through, including trees and dead sheep floating by. We fished early Satuday through to Monday afternoon. Weather brightend on Sunday and river dropped 4ft and slowed down. 25 barbel to 9lb 4ozs mainly 5's and 6's, 5 fat bronze chub, and 2 eels. Pellet, bollies and meat, 5oz swimfeeders in the slack. Not many canoes, great scenary, buzzards, cuckoos and a very low flying military plane. Locals told us the flow is controlled by a dam sluice which releases water when its near full. We were fortunate that the weather changed on Sunday morning and we saw plenty of warm sunshine.

My second visit and another very successful day. River was very high and most of the best swims were not available - will have to try the 'banker' another time. Found a slack spot and was in to fish on 2nd cast. Managed 13 fish in total. 8 barbel to 9.5lb and 5 very large chub - with the largest over 6.5lb. All caught on 8ml and 15ml elipse pellets with 3/4ml pellets in a block end feeder. Size 10 hooks with the pellets glued to a hair. 12lb hooklink and 15lb main line - lots of snags and very strong current. Another excellent W&U location - I will be back.

Due to the amount of recent rain, the river was quite high and moving very fast, but found some good slacks by the trees towards the bridge. Ended up catching two eels and two barbel both around 6 pounds and in perfect condition. This was my first time at Caradoc and even though the conditions were not ideal, I had a great day and am definitely coming back.

Caught approx 35 Brown Trout between the two of us, mostly around 6 ounces. A good day & will be returning soon!

Turned up at Whitehouse around 6am, the weather wasn't too good, scattered heavy showers, light showers and a bit windy. After planning to make the most of the full length of the fishery we were a bit disappointed as the river was up a good few feet and pushing through, lots of debris floating by. The conditions made us choose the lower stretch hoping the extra water over any gravel bars would be a good starting point but mainly because we could land and return any fish safely.
We both set up feeder rods, I was on halibut pellet, hemp & caster, my dad was fishing sweetcorn, hemp and caster. After a good few dace and small chublets, around 8.30 I had our first barbel at 7lb 5oz so things looked promising. At around 11am I had another barbel at 7lb 4oz. A couple of hours saw my dad have a few more dace and chub, then after a good look around we decided to up sticks and move to the top end of the fishery. Sticking to the same baits my dad had quite a few more dace and small chub then another barbel at 9lb 11oz. Between 2pm and 8pm my dad continued to catch smaller stuff and we had another 3 barbel between 6lb and 7lb 9oz. Considering the conditions were so so, we had a great time and even when most of the river wasn't visible it was a cracking days fishing and another visit is on the cards.

Having fished this beat in the Winter for pike we were hoping that a Summer barbel trip would find the river in better trim with the wet weather gear left at home, we should have known better! Arriving late Saturday morning we found the river up 8ft and pushing through. We had a chat with the other angler booked on and we agreed we were going to struggle, and this is how it turned out as we fished through until late for half a dozen barbel to mid 6lb and a soaking in the evening down pour. Returning Sunday we were pleased to see the river had dropped around 3ft even after the over night rain and felt confident. Speaking to a very helpful angler on arrival only heightened this feeling as he had caught barbel to over 8lb and was happy to advise us on the beat. The fishing was slow to start with but come the end of the day it was hard to leave for home as it really picked up. Considering the conditions for the two days fishing we were happy with catching well over twenty barbel to just over 8lb between us, with K B taking the majority. After all the rain we had the week before leading up to today and the first time we had fished this beat, we weren't as upbeat as usual on our 100 plus miles visit. We got to the river and as we expected thundering through like an express train ,the bottom of the beat was compleatly unfishable so headed off up to the top of the beat. A lot more cover, trees in the river about 5 rod lenghts out, river up by 7 to 8 feet. We got in a couple of swims where the trees broke the flow and it was quite comfortable. We fished right up to the trees with feeder pellets combo, clutches set tight. What a day 10 barbel from 5lbs to 9lbs 15 ozs just short of the magic ten 2 chub to 3.5lbs, countless hook pulls and lost fish. It was constant from late morning until went home. If we had stayed i think we would have quite easily doubled our catch as they came on the feed again late on.
The upper part of this beat is lovely. Why its not fished much is beyond me with the river at normal level and all the trees along the bank. Its a cracker, on parr with a lot of the beats and we have fished most of them.
Roll on next time. Oh and about the steep path,im writing this report from our local A & E [not really]!

Raining heavily and windy all day but the fishing was excellent an I had one of the best days I can remember. Fish fought well and I was broken twice. Fish were about one pound to one and a half pounds. Venue very pleasing to the eye. Fished north of the area called Maggot Bay, or so I am told.
Booked permit online which was much better than the machine. Will be back soon.
