1 trout. We were a bit disappointed at the bank access which is not great and is not apparent from the book !
Accuracy of descriptions is important !

Nothing hatching in any numbers and consequently not much rising. A 15 inch grayling early evening saved the day. Came to a size 20 Griffiths gnat.

Fishing:Trout (River)

Fished Sat 22nd & Sun 23rd of May.
The river was very low and the weather hot for the time of year. Caught 3 small trout on a small "F"fly Sat, all fish returned. Tried dry, wet, & nymphs on Sun, no good at all. I was supprised at how few Mayflies there were about, although there were a few on Sunday.

Very impressed with the service provided by the Wye & Usk foundation.

First time on this beat and fished from 2pm to about 7pm on what was a very hot afternoon. Water was very low and gin clear. A few fish seen rising but most of them turned out to be very small grayling, did see a few larger fish but they had already seen me.

Flies hatching all afternoon but the only ones I could easily recognise were yellow mays. Didn't find the wading too difficult but the fishing was tough. I managed to catch just one trout a real beauty of 16 inches that took a klinkhammer and missed a couple more my son did slightly better landing another trout of similar size and a grayling just a little smaller both took a weighted nymph all three returned.

A very enjoyable way to spend a hot afternoon.

Very warm with bright sunshine, but this beat has more than enough shade to be able to find feeding fish through most of the day. 14 trout in all, to around 12". The lower part of the beat produced the best fish, although by the afternoon it was very busy with swimming dogs and people enjoying picnics. Still, there is plenty of quieter water further up and the coppicing work that was done over the winter has made a real difference. Even so, anyone who wants to visit the beat and help themelves to the range of flies now decorating the trees and various underwater obstacles is more than welcome!

I imagine the fish really started to come on at the end of the day, but that comes rather late at this time of year and, with a long drive home ahead of me, I decided to head off around 7.00. Great day's fishing.

A stunning location for a very memorable days fishing at Gromain. 6 Trout caught on mayfly nymphs, largest being 1 1/2 lb (all returned) - and seeing a very large Salmon in the shallows before it shot off into deeper water was a real bonus - thanks
