13 trout caught, many more lost. All fish were between 1/2 lb and 1 lb, and all safely returned. flies were mostly parachute Adams, or black gnats. In all my years of fishing, have never seen so many trout rising at the same time! We both enjoyed our 4 days fishing here on the Usk, and will be back for sure next year. We would like to commend you all at the Foundation for all the effort you have put in to provide us, the visiting angler, with such wonderful opportunities to fish in Wales!

17 x trout 6-12 inches. This beat is very good value as there is a lot of fishable water. I spent a long morning (all the time I had to spare, sadly) prospecting the top part with a Klinkhammer and in fact never got round to covering the bottom end and the Worm Brook - some other time. Come the autumn, I am sure there will be good grayling in those deep holes. Meanwhile, the first mayfly I have seen this year came floating down.

Just to let you know that fishing was tough today at Talybont. Not totally sure what they were on much of the time, but for sure they were taking Olive Upright nymphs and emergers - a tale told by tomorrow's dinner. This explains why an OU pattern took several fish. Also had several fish on a Large Brook Dun pattern - again there were quite a lot hatching over the day. Also fish on a size 20 black F Fly - the fish were smutting under the trees. One on a pale watery emerger and another on a hare's ear emerger. No pattern to what they took at all and couldn't make head not tail of it!! Best fish, a couple of two pounders. Most of the day though the fish were totally in charge and running rings around me!

All in all, very difficult at the moment with low levels, low flows and fish very mobile in the shallows smutting and actively nymphing and so spooked so very easily.

Kev had 5 trout (best 15") 4 grayling. Me - 7 trout (best 13"x2) and one grayling. Mostly on nymphs. Surprisingly few rising fish about although the bright clear conditions may not have helped.

A beautiful day, water gin clear, glad that I'm not the only one finding the trout elusive, and to what they are feeding on, anyones guess? Plenty of fish riseing but just refused any dry pattern from black gnat to large olive patterns the ony success was to ptn and bead head nymphs resulting in 2 8" trout to hand many more shook off as others have noted fish in the shallows activley nymphing. The dog walkers on this beat seem intent on getting their dogs wet, but I couldn't even catch one of them. A great day none the less and maybe better luck next time. Thanks W&U team

11 brown trout caught, between 3/4lb and 1.5lbs. all returned. 7 of these were 1 lb or over. Some of these were quite difficult to catch, as they were constantly turning on hatching nymphs just below the surface, and ignoring dry flies just above them. most were taken on parachute adams and parachute black gnat sz. 16. wondeful beat!
