8 x trout 6-9 inches on Klinkhammers. It suddenly struck me that the end of September is almost here, after which we will be confined to those voucher beats which have grayling. Time to use the little 7 foot rod again before it is put away for the winter. Even by the standards of the passport scheme, the Dulas is a really small stream with a flow seemingly not much greater than the taps running into my bath. So you end up fishing the holes, of which there are quite a number and surprisingly deep in places. It's a very pretty piece of water, particularly now as the leaves colour up, containing small versions of the usual handsomely coloured Dore trout. And when fishing is over, the Dog Inn at the bottom of the beat in Ewyas Harold fulfils that most important anglers' requirement - it's almost always open.

Started at Boys rocks and caught 9 Barbel to just under 8lbs on Pellets by 11.00am. 5 of these were over 7lbs
I then decided to to try the bottom field in the afternoon but failed to find the fish and the school rowing club eventually persuaded me to leave.

Absolutely superb fishing. I have fished all over the world and this day was perhaps the best small stream trout fishing, in terms of action, that I have ever had. 50+ trout to 1lb4oz and 1 small grayling. 7.6 rod and 7X. Almost all fish taken on klinkhammer, adams and a small size 18 tungsten skinny nymph, small hares ears and PTs. The river took on plenty of colour during the heavy downpours and I started to wonder if it would torpedo the fishing, but far from it. I fished the heads and tails of pools and was lucky enough to enjoy almost non-stop action. I hope to write an article about this trip and small stream fishing in general in FF and FT such was the excellent quality of the fishing. Oh yes, and to top it all off I saw a kingfisher fishing which was a delight! Thanks WUF!

As you know we are at the mercy of the weather in September - feast or famine! Turned up to fish Abernant for a long awaited end of season trip only to find the Wye roaring through the valley like chocolate soup from heavy overnight rain.

Made my way about half a mile up the road to fish one of my favourite streams, the Edw. Whilst this was also pretty high and coloured I decided to give it a go.

Managed to winkle out 6wbt, 5" to 7" and best about 9",all fell to spiders (usual suspects). Then the heavens opened mid afternoon so retreated to my B&B, a warm shower, a couple of pints with dinner and a prayer for clearer overnight skies (had booked Abernant again the next day).

Had 6 grayling (biggest about 12 oz) plus about 5 salmon parr. All fish off the top on a grey bodied klinkhammer. Lovely looking stretch of water in peaceful surroundings.
