Lots of fly life, but cool and very windy meaning no feeding activity on the surface. Spent the day nymphing deep in the pools and runs with only one brownie (approx 1lb) caught in the day.
Lovely beat with great access - looking forward to returning on a warm calm day!

Lovely river, fished most of the day, NZ method. Little fly life and no fish rising but it was quite a cold day, with rain showers and gusty wind. No fish caught

4 beautiful Brown Trout all returned, 1 x 12 inches, 3 x 8 inches, all caught on upstream dry fly, rose 3 or 4 more in brigh conditions. Didn't see huge numbers of fish showing, however with a fair amount of fly life on the water there was occasional activity. Will certainly return for another go at some stage of the seasoon. Access to the river not fantastic, however managed to fish all the likely looking spots on the beat.

Good days fishing. Plenty of activity through the morning and afternoon, although the evening got a little quiet.
Fish up to around a pound, mainly in the faster water rather than the flat glides. Lots of salmon smolts evident in the pools and runs. Large dark olives and quite a few Grannom about especially the adults coming back to egg lay in the afternoon and evening. A few fish moving to the dries, fish however mainly taken on small nymphs pheasant tails and hares ears.

Fished 11am - 3pm. Warm, spring day. Water clear and at a good height. Lots of Grannom around and trout rising when I arrived. Finished up with 4 trout from 8"-16", all caught on dry flies. Two from above the bridge, two from below. Nice beat, although deep wading required.

A difficult day with the wind. Very little in the way of sustained hatches. A few dark olives around midday and that was it. No fish rising. Fished nymphs in deep water most of the day. Missed two very subtle takes. No fish to the net. Lovely beat, but just wasn't to be today!

Very little fly life. Very bright windy day. Saw no fish, caught no fish. Beautiful beat which deserves a visit when spring has properly sprung that high up the valley. Was slighly surprised to 'share' the beat with 3 blokes spinning and one chucking a swim feeder in to a deep pool.
WUF note: the owner will be made aware of the other anglers. Please report any suspected poaching activity as soon as possible.

5 x trout 11 - 17 inches, spiders, Super Pupa and Roman Moser's Emerging Caddis. My first time on this beat, which will probably repay taking some time to understand, although I do fish Kemys downstream. Chainbridge has a well-deserved reputation for salmon and the Rock Pool looks like a great bit of salmon fly-fishing. For the man with a trout rod: well, a more than usually frustrating grannom hatch, missing many more fish than hit, the fly coming off in waves until the water looked like soup with the empty caddis shucks. At 5 o'clock, always worth waiting for, the spectacular sight of the females migrating upstream like a column of smoke. I didn't touch the lower pools recommended for trout, due to a persistent half gale blowing up the stretch and a friendly WUF team busily coppicing the bank. Other fauna seen: a very large grass snake swimming across the river, which turned back on spotting me - a sight which used to be common along with the little water vole, but not in recent years. Plus lots of salmon parr, some of which are already showing signs of adopting their silvery smolt coats.
