3 Barbel, 2 Chub

Fished downstream of footbridge. Chocolate coloured water. High & fast. Difficult to find swims close enough to the water to fish. We managed . Very snaggy swim I fished I managed 6 chub. Lost 2 barbel to snags. Tim fished upstream a bit & had 7 barbel to over 8lbs. & chub. No snags lol. Lovely beat though.

Access to the fishing hut from the car park used to be by turning right into the field, now its down the left hand side to the river and then up to the hut

1’11” on the gauge this morning and the river carrying a nice bit of colour.Dark , gloomy, chilly and drizzle. A* salmon fishing weather. And so it proved.
It’s been a while since I hooked and lost two salmon in a morning but unfortunately it happened again today.
The first, a smallish fish, around 7-9lb , maybe a grilse, which was on briefly in the bridge pool before jumping above the rock and freeing itself, and the other, a coloured cock fish in excess of 20lb, which took the same fly in the gravel catch. A brace of trout 14” and 15” from the same area , which also took the Red Devil conehead, didn’t quite ease the pain.
Actually, I wasn’t too despondent about losing the big boy this late in the season as, after a terrific scrap, I’d got the best of him before he slipped away a couple of yards from the net. Onwards and upwards.

P.S. The clearance work that has been done at Glanwye pool has made the access much easier.

River still high making it awkward. Fished 2 swims on the lower end into quieter water. 3 chub, no barbel

Apart from 1 hours sun the conditions were horrible. Tried hard in a few spots but only managed 1 Chub.

Ok day, got a little rough later on with a storm pushing overhead and the river became ‘busy’ with tree bits. Otherwise not a terrible day.
