An icy start with the Erwood gauge at 1.2m. Trotting today but ice in the rod rings was a problem until 11. Tried numerous spots, some of these were productive at the same level in December before the recent high water, but unable to find the grayling. 2 out of season brownies only.

A disappointing day! The river looked in great condition with the flood water of two or three weeks ago having run off well and apart from the early fog the weather was cold and over cast so no excuses about the conditions. Two of us euro nymphed using tactics that have usually produced the goods but today it just didn't happen - we had one bite between us whilst trying to long line in one of the less accessible runs, and that was it! An experienced fishing guide told us a while ago that grayling can be put off by road salt getting into the river so perhaps that was the reason as after the recent frosts the gritters had been out and about, or perhaps the recent floods had moved the fish.

Another lovely day on the club water . Most fish came around midday , trotting double red maggots and feeding sparsely . Called it a day when the trout moved in

Tough conditions, water was very cold. Presumably snow melt had worked its way down from Wales. Very few bites apart from trout that took a liking to luncheon meat.

Have been watching the gauge and the river now at a manageable level, although the weather made it a challenge - still but bitingly cold. Water pretty clear in the lower reaches of the beat but less so as I moved upstream. 8+ cormorants in the shallows at the top of Lady Alexander's Catch, I've always seen them solitary or in pairs, not sure who was more surprised as I waded around the bankside bush. Nymphing, using a variety of patterns - sadly failed to find the fish but great to be on the river after so long.
