First time on this beat so it took a little while to get my bearings. The river looked in good condition. Once set up and ready to start there were immediately some rising fish. Once I got into position about 11:45 there was a real flurry of rises (both MBs and LDOs). I had a couple of rises to my offering but couldn't connect. By about 12:20 it was all over. The rest of the afternoon was spent wandering the bank with the occasional cast in possible places. Very occasional rises but generally where all the earlier action occurred. Great to be on the river but on this occasion I didn't crack the code.

Beautiful section of the river and pretty good wading on the majority. Lovely hatches of March Browns from 11.30, on and off for over an hour. Large darks too. Managed only one and lost five. First day back and somewhat rusty and the fish acrobats !
Hope to return. Huge thanks to the other angler who kindly waited for me as he didn’t like to leave a woman angler on their own. Also opened and closed the gates so I could leave first. What a gentleman.

Have to say I was really very disappointed with this beat. I’ve been before and use the wye Usk foundation a fair amount but the access to this beat is abysmal. I counted three potential access points along the whole beat. Whether it’s the cost involved to get this improved I don’t know, but I know I’m not the first to have this problem. If this is the situation in March it will only get worse as the foliage develops.
I gave up and went to Abernant and was rewarded with a lovely chunky grayling. Sorry to moan and I really appreciate the quality of the fishing you offer and am happy for this to be a charitable donation.

Klink and dink for two very nice fish. River was up and pushing through. The path on the right hand bank isn't accessible after point X.
