The river was "on the rise" - It rose extremely rapidly, rising just under 1 metre (39 inches) in about 8 hours!
Everything was coming down the river, logs , branches, small trees was like a mini sunami !
Best fish of the day a Chub at 4lb 61/2oz, and another couple at about 2-3 lbs. Also a couple of Barbel - biggest about 1.5lb

2 Barbel, 3 Chub

Arrived midday to find a rising river and lots of rubbish being washed through. Caught from a number of swims mainly in the margins. Although we did catch on the feeder with pellet most fish taken on straight lead and meat.

The river was in flood and very coloured. It was not fishable for fly fishing. Such a pity as this was our last chance to fish before the end of the season.

I was about to go home Tues night , but had a look at the river further up and it didn't seem too bad ( a bit high but not too coloured ) but somehow during the night, even though there wasn't any more rain it had gone really brown ! .I had a go for a couple of hours but to no avail. Did have a near death experience when an oak bough fell 20 feet and landed only 4 feet away from me ! It was 6 ft long and as thick as my leg. I was waist deep in water at the time and luckily it just gave me quite a soaking!

The river looked promising when I arrived as it was warm and there was plenty of fly life. No fish rising though and nothing caught. There was a bit of colour in the water.

Barbel first cast followed by a chub, then struggled for another bite. Moved swims and we managed to hook a 9.5lb Barbel. All fish caught on pellet. River was up and rose rapidly in the late afternoon.

3 Barbel, 2 Chub
