I'm afraid I didn't fish. Weather too extreme to be standing out in the middle of the Wye as far as I am concerned!

Very very cold, but beautiful day. River was clear and pushing through. Fished from 7.30 for four hours using a variety of nymphs. Hard to find fish today but managed 4 grayling, nothing of size and a oos trout of about 14". Fairly pleased given the weather.

WUF please amend the parking directions as the space in front of the Bell is now a picnic area. I parked in the pub car park. Cheers.

WUF Note: Thanks for letting us know, we will look into this and update maps accordingly.

8 x grayling 9-11inches, Pink Shrimp and various leaded wet flies. I tried this for about three hours. Some shots were to be had by standing waist-deep in the middle of the Wye, which is a good fishing height now. But I'm afraid the wind chill factor just became too much - hardly a pleasure. Upstream wind very strong and the rod rings laden with ice.

Fly fishing for pike. River wade-able in places, moderately clear and a medium flow. But we couldn’t find the pike! Banks slippery in places so care needed.

We managed two trout and one chub on maggot feeder, which in the conditions was a result.

Arriving late, we concentrated on the lower Bachawy Pool, and with the water so clear and low I started swinging some spiders with a tungsten Hare’s Ear on the point. After a few knocks, I took one large but very skinny out of season trout before switching to a couple of nymphs suspended below an indicator. My mate had taken one small grayling at the head of the pool on a Peeping Caddis Jig. After searching the whole pool, we eventually stumbled across the fish and managed to take 27 grayling between us in a couple of hours. Most were small shots but nevertheless, it was great fun watching the indicator twitch, often just under the rod tip. A bitterly cold day amongst a very exposed section of river, but a much-needed fix to help cope with another week in the office!
