Very cold day on this beautiful river. Unfortunately no fish but scenery made up for it. Fished between 10am and 4pm.

River level had dropped slightly since I fished the beat 2 weeks ago. Unable to find a shoal of big grayling like last time, with the fish I took spread out along river. Four grayling best 18inches and 1 WBT.

A cold overcast day but thankfully very little wind to chill the bones. The river was at a normal winter height. We fished 3 swims in the lower field and tried our full portfolio of baits and methods but the chub and barbel were simply not there or not interested. But a deadbeat fished 5 feet from the edge under some fallen branches tempted a beautiful 12 lb pike to leave her lair. A second pull later on to the same tactic resulted in nothing more than a few choice words.
The easy vehicle access to the bank is a huge plus for this beat and with lower water and drier banks there will many swims to try out. But overall probably fewer features than most Wye beats.
Thanks WUF for all your work.

First outing this year. River at exactly two feet on the Llanstephan gauge and running perfectly clear. From noon to about 4pm no fish were contacted but then DD had a a couple of light takes followed by a small grayling to hand. JD then had a few positive bites before landing a 12” grayling. Fish were more active for the next hour and both anglers contacted and lost larger fish including one that looked about 18” as it broke the surface (and leader). Both anglers were fishing weighted nymphs on point with an unweighted fly on a dropper and it was the droppers that seemed to attract the fishes attention (with JD’s grayling coming to a Hancock’s Pet).

Water very clear so trotting maybe not the best idea. After 2 hours switched to nymphs for another hour before a bad back got the better of me.
