Two 10lbers this morning, size 10 Bann shrimp. Lucky to get the second fish - line went under a mid river boulder and it removed the poly from my polyleader. Only had it for about five years as well.

The river was is superb condition given the fairly decent amounts of rain, probably a foot higher than a month ago. Tried a fish imitator first up (it was a fly recommended to me, but I forget the name!). But not a touch, even down the long glide at the heart of the beat. Then I tried a damsel fly nymph - again, not a touch. In between times, I saw just one small fish gently rise. I then reverted to the tried and trusted PTN - and in the same main glide the original fly had had no success, I got a contact! Turned out to be a small trout that threw the hook! And then no more luck. I haven't really connected with the fish that are undoubtedly here despite several goes here now. But I love the solitude of this beat, so I will keep coming back. But I'm just not sure how differently I'm fishing this beat compared with other anglers here who very often seem to catch plenty!!!

Lovely day out, with changeable conditions. Lots of kayakers throughout the day so made things tricky with the lines out. But managed a few nice ones and a big chub. biggest was 7lb. large pellets on the hair with pva bags got all the action.
The owner came by and was a lovely bloke. Relaxed spot and had a great time. Small beat but lovely spot. Would recommend

Fished Whitney Court mainly as we were camping with friends near locksters pool and didn't want to be disrespectful and not buy a ticket. Very nice stretch but reputedly difficult for trout this time of year so no catch for us.

Plenty of large fish splashes and two really good pike showed their backs whilst we were at the water and a third that came to check out my friends leg whilst wading in middle. Probably better for coarse fish or salmon right time of the year. Nevertheless, a beautiful river no matter what beat you're on.

We fished the end of beat 4 where the river really begins to pick up the pace, using heavy feeder tactics and long hook lengths. We all fished pellet and for a while attempted trotting. We had a fair few bovine fans, including old chainy (watch out for her), and a constant stream of canoeists - the vast majority of whom were very courteous - the odd few however were utter morons. We also had quite a bit of attention from the infamous swan on that stretch called Psycho Sid. He had a pop at one of us when fishing from the gravel island - be warned - he loves a loaf of bread! We had a small chub of 6-8oz and a better fish of 3lb 14oz on feeder. We all lost fish as well - they felt like chub. We saw barbel jumping on the stretch (bizarre!) and also a fair amount of trout activity in the evening. We also had two foul hooked minnow to add insult to injury! But it made us laugh. It was a beautiful day and this is a lovely venue. It's just a shame that the fish weren't on the feed.

1 Small Brownie, 1 Rainbow. The best fishing is unfortunately nearest where the car is parked, where all the bait fishermen are.
