The river was on the high side and had a tinge of colour in it. We met Nathan in the morning and he was very helpful and knowledgeable. He showed us the main areas on how to fish the pools. We started with the fly and then focused with the spinner later on as the river was not clearing. It is a lovely beat and Nathan has been working hard to clear the banks. I can see with less water then there would be some lovely bits of fly water. There were plenty of fish moving through the beat but no fish for us as they were running through the beat. A good day out and I will defiantly return.

I've been very unlucky this season. Every time I fish there is a strong upstream wind... and so there was again today! It was rather cold, but there were still good hatches of fly including mayfly. The swifts were taking them from around my head at one point! My friend caught 3 reasonable trout, and I caught nothing... I don't know what is wrong with me... I hooked 7 and they all got off very quickly.

Very cold day, with easterly wind. We picked off the odd fish, as we worked our way up the beat, mostly on dries, then, in the early afternoon at the top run, suddenly substantial numbers of flies appeared on the water, including: olives, sedges, yellow May duns, and a few mayfly. There were fish rising every where, but surprisingly 'picky'. I lost a huge trout which took in 4-6 ins of water. Fly was a sz. 18 March Brown. The fish shot across the river in a cloud of spray! These are the moments that linger in your memory! However we managed to catch 14 trout, one of which was 2.5 lbs, another of 2 lbs, and several of the others were around 1.25 lbs. Many fish lost, but most caught were on dries. Very absorbing fishing!

Boy do you have to work hard to catch trout on this fast moving brook. I was pleased to get 3 little beauties to hand having 7 or 8 long releases throughout the day. No fish topping even though there was the occasional mayfly lifting off so every fish was taken on a ptn. The wagtails were filling their bellies on them and putting on a great show.
What I didn't expect to see was mink and not just one individual, as bold as brass slipping in and out of the water.
A lovely quite place to spend a day, many thanks to the Foundation.

T-shirt weather up in the hills. River a picture - clear with good flow. All types of fly hatching, olives, mays, various black bodied of different sizes. Some trout rising but seemed to be going for variety today. Anyway, they were rising to my para adams and olives bounced down the runs and fast water - eventually landed 15 and missed quite a few as well, mainly in the morning as a cool downstream breeze slowed things down after 2.30. All sizes from 6" to 12" but mostly very fit 10/11 inchers. Also a pleasant chat with the Yurt holidayers in the first field! What could be a better way to spend the day??
