Weather warm, bright and sunny, the river still carrying just a hint of colour. I walked through the first field but failed to find a place to enter the river after that access improved, this whole beat looks like perfect dry fly flats of varying depth and flow, the wading is relatively easy.
No obvious hatch but I persevered with a dry fly and eventually a few small yellow up wings started to come off but by 2pm I'd managed to rise, miss and loose 10 fish but netted none of them!
A quick coffee break and back to the river. As I sat on the bank tying on a fly a fish rose just off the bank in inches of water right in front of me, I didn't even get up, just flicked my fly out and watched in shock as it was taken, I struck and found myself connected to a surprisingly large fish which when netted was at least 18 inches. No sooner had I released it another good fish rose just up from where I was now standing, I covered it and got an instant take from a very good fish which fought like a tiger resulting in a new PB at well over 2lb and much longer than my 18 inch net! The afternoon from then on was much more successful with 9 trout caught and returned. Thank you WUF for another great day fishing in beautiful surroundings.

Great day but fish were quite fickle. Plenty of splashes and boils off the top at variety of flies but few hook-ups (or I was just slow to strike..)

A great few hours on a great beat. First time here and fished to the end. Small fish rising all along beat in low numbers. Persevered with dries and was rewarded with 4 to hand, lost a few at my feet and didn't manage to connect with most! But all good sport!! Occasional mayfly coming off with all fish caught on pale watery duns size 16/14.
Middle 1/3 of beat provided most enjoyment and easy wading. Must try other Edw beats when time allows....

Arrived at this very picturesque beat with great anticipation and pent up enthusiasm to try a new river. Warm and sunny conditions with lots of fly life on the river throughout the day including a constant but limited mayfly hatch - sadly no fish of any size rising to them! Several takes on small grey wolf and mayfly patterns but only one fish landed on a pheasant tail nymph late on in the pool below the upper weir. Due to extensive nettle and thistle growth unable to reach the lower weir. We agree with the previous comments about the new barbed wire fence but it does stop the bullocks from interfering with your back cast!!
Great days fishing, hard work for a very limited reward and sadly we left wondering if there were any fish in this stretch of the river other than small fry - there probably are but our lack of ability/river craft was no doubt the reason why we failed to land more!!!

Having had a taster session here two weeks ago, I decided to explore the beat again today. On a pretty nice day, albeit with a stregthening easterly breeze, there was nowhere near as much morning and afternoon fly as two weeks back, and fly appeared much later in the morning as well. Many fewer OUs in particular but there were some of these, plus some olives, large brook duns and latterly some mayfly, then lots of midge and sedges. Rising fish, of which there were more than enough, some of which were seen clearly to take duns but many others were nymphing, were pretty picky to emerger patterns and, in retrospect, I should have spent more time using light nymphs and spiders. That said, nine fish with many of 14-15", took olive and hare's ear emergers. A somewhat frustrating day at times with an important old lesson re-learnt!

I caught all fish on worm and bubble float but on that day I was informed by the bailiffs that I was not to start fishing until 8am when on booking the ticket online and asking a college of Wye Usk foundation I was informed it's dusk till dawn on getting to the reservoir there where a number of people poaching as they packed up when I arrived an on explaining this to the bailiff on duty they're reply was nothing we can do we start at 8am so we pay all that money to fish these reservoirs when the poachers are fishing free and taking the live stock out what is the point of paying I understand it's against the law to poach but if nothing is getting done to stop it or police the situation then really don't see why I waste my money trying to catch supposed stock fish that possibly ain't there because all ready caught by poachers
