Lovely beat & fantastic scenery but caught the river slightly up but coloured with visibility about 12 inches . contacted one or two and was broken by something decent . Banks mainly wooded making access difficult and with the river coloured was not confident on wading to deep for our first visit. lots of otter signs, no rising fish on our day due to no fly hatches = no fish.

Superb conditions now with fish in all the pools. Good lift of water overnight made all the difference. Sadly 2 fish lost this morning but what great sport. Had to leave early today but will definitely be back tomorrow. Fish showing on beats 3 and 4 [ thats all I had time to see.] Sad shortage of angling effort given the conditions are good. Only saw 1 other rod, hope he did better.

We were very disappointed - it had rained heavily the day before when we were on the Abercynrig beat and today dawned with more very heavy rain. We visited the beat but decided to give the conditions best. The river was running fast and a bit silted - thigh waders would certainly not have been adequate. So we did not even put up the rods and had a very wet journey back to Oxfordshire.
We will come again...!! Geoffrey Bailey

A morning of light yet consistent rain meant water clarity dropped as the day progressed. A few blustery winds meant hatches were slim, however, fish were caught on a number of dry LBD patterns. A few fish missed on spiders and nymphs too, but a great day, and angler over the moon with his first visit back on the Usk after a break of decades.

Weather was overcast and drizzle.Water coloured.
Usual nymphs for the time of year (partridge & orange, gold ribbed hairs ear etc ) were swopped for brighter nymphs with silver bodies or coloured heads after fish showed no interest. Sadly the brighter nymphs still didn't tempt the fish. We didn't have a single take, so headed to the recently refurbished Prince Llewellyn in Cilmari for a warm and pint.
We fished for 2.5 hrs beofore lunch and the same time afterwards finishing at 18:00 hrs. The river looked magnificent with an abundance of wildlife, Kingfishers, herons & raptors.
