All fish caught on a team of 3 wet flies, most fish caught on a red tag fly. Most Grayling were around 10 inches but I did catch one 17" Grayling. The by-catch out of season trout were all around 10" long. The conditions were a bit tricky with quite fast water and lots of leaves on the water, meaning that I had to remove leaves from at least one fly every few casts. I stayed in the Seven Stars Inn in Aberedw which I cannot recommend, although the staff were friendly and the rooms clean and comfortable they are directly above the main bar so are incredibly noisy. In my case there was a 21st birthday party on the first night of my stay which lasted until 1 in the morning and the second night had a live band which may as well have been in my room and continued until after 01:30. Not great when you want an early start.

After a fairly testing drive down a narrow bumpy lane we arrived to find the river at a reasonable level. We enjoyed the long walk despite being a touch apprehensive getting passed the cows with their young.
The fishing was slow and we only managed 1 Chub and a handful of small Dace plus a welcome first Wye gudgeon for us.
Despite the length of this stretch there are very few swims and with the Courtfield beat on the opposite bank it is understandable this stretch is seldom fished apart from by the numerous Kingfishers resident!!
Maybe in summer when the level is lower, there may be better prospects and our lack of experience probably did not help the poor return.

Very windy conditions, a hard (but enjoyable) days lure fishing. Between two anglers fishing from 08:30-18:00, we caught two rainbow trout and three brown trout (two undersized), plus two perch at dusk. We used a mixture of spinners, spoons, diving lipped minnows, and soft plastic swim baits. A beautiful water, very quiet (only saw a couple of other anglers), not much rubbish (though quite a lot of discarded mono line, why do they do it!?). Two fish taken.

Fished the waggler using maggot and once the canoes had departed caught steadily throughout the day. River levels had dropped nicely from earlier in the week and I had an enjoyable days fishing catching small chub.

1.15pm above Rhayader: caught my first ever Atlantic Salmon at the last gasp of the season on a 12 dark waddington. Slightly coloured hen of 9-10lb est. Tough fight with a hundred yards of inaccessable rapids below me. Probably did her a favour by getting her in quick(ish). Ten minutes of revival then took off like a shot. I am a very happy fisherman this evening.

Nice days fishing, river slightly up but running fairly clear. 9 graying to 12 inches and 2 trout taken. All in top condition. All fish taken on nymphs under indicator. Near all woodland parts of the beat were not possible to fish due to high vegetation!

Fished from about 11.00am until 18:00pm. Tried for the first two hours to catch on the float but despite a couple of bites nothing to show. Changed to feeder tactics and started to catch slowly throughout the day. All fish in absolute pristine condition. Martin managed a 9lb 6oz Barbel, a Chub 3.5lb and some Dace. I managed two Barbel, best 6.5lb and numerous Dace, two Grayling and a Brownie. Pellets, boilies, bread and maggots.

River up a few inches and pushing through a bit but otherwise looked good. Still, struggled to locate many fish and finished the day with three 4 inch grayling, a ten and eleven incher and an OOS brownie of eleven inches. All taken on a various heavy czech/tungsten beaded nymphs fished on point and single dropper.

Very hard days fishing. Last one for me this season and hoped to go out with a bang but not so lucky, the fish won.
