A stretch of this lovely river I've ignored so far but I should have not done so for so long! I had a great day catching plenty of nice quality fish on a variety of fly fishing methods. Fish were rising between 10am and 4pm in all types of water on the beat but I was unable to determine what they were eating! Poor old chap with failing eyesight dredges up feeble excuse. I cannot therefore pass on any wisdom to those who follow in my footsteps other than I took fish from slower, deeper stretches on small klinkhammers (black), fish from broken water on elk hair caddis and some from both types on a hares ear fished Klink and Dink.
A lovely day on a nice stretch of river.

Perfect conditions (water, weather, hatching fly) but almost no fish showing, even in the most tantalising of spots. A complete blank!

The other angler was my friend O M and he will make separate return. Really disappointing. Looked very promising. Loads of fly life BUT saw not a single rise and caught not a single fish!!
Maybe lots of reasons of course - Were we too early in the day? Fished from about 9.30a.m. Tried all sorts - so after a few hours we gave up and drove home.

Arrived at 10 am. Overcast, cool, very windy. Fished only bellow the weir. Both fish take on a wurm style tungston jig hook with rubber legs size 16. 10 ins & 5ins. Good condition. Released ok.

First time on this beat and was impressed. Very nice area to fish. Now that's out the way to the fishing.. rain, sunshine, then the most horrendous downstream wind made my three weight almost impossible to use. 6 of the eight fish came in the first hour to size 18 f -fly then the wind strengthened. As I could not turn my fly over nymphed heads of pools picking off another two and decided to call it a day. Lovely beat, shame wind ruined catch return.

All seemed set for an excellent day - warm, some sun, good flow in the river, lots of varied flies out, birds singing, bluebells blooming etc. The trout were not told! Tried every method, saw only 4 rises and caught 2 of them at 9" but that was it. Frustrating (and humbling), but a nice day in the country. Two of the pools are now unfishable with fallen trees etc.
