A stunning location and even with the river running very low it should be full of fish. We covered all of the white water with Klink & dink (PTN) but nothing at all, even in the pools which are deep and slow, nothing was moving and nothing was seen. We ended up pulling out three small fingerlings 4/5 inch's for a full days fishing. Plenty of Dippers and Kingfishers, we even found a dead dog Otter. He was fat and very dead so maybe he ate everything and died of a full stomach. It deserves to be full of fish, its a stunning location, well oxygenated water and long swims and deep pools. Unfortunately, like us the fish where off on holiday the day we turned up.

Water very low and shallow, plenty of chub but unable to find the barbel until the last cast. Needs a drop of rain. Nice beat, all the fish taken on pellets with a feeder.

Weather dry but overcast during morning to mid-afternoon when it turned to light rain conditions. Not a very successful days fishing. The consolation (if any) was that other anglers in the vicinity appear to have had a similar fishing experience.

Enjoyable but extremely tough day in wonderful surroundings. One barbel taken on pellet from croy. Many chub seen but none caught. River still painfully low.

Fished bottom pool after talking to Don (excellent info) with 10mm pellet and feeder tactics. Had a barbel first cast and did not look back thanks again too Don and the Wye & Usk also. Canoes not too much of a problem.

All fish were caught early and late in the day. Fished a few swims along the beat but it was the top and bottom sections of the beat with the faster flowing water that produced all the fish. Used Hinders elips barrels with pva bags of elips pellets. Bait droppered every hour with hemp and pellets. I think that once there is a few extra feet of water this will make catches a bit more consistent throughout the beat. Would be nice if swim access from pumping station up to Shut Pool could be improved. On arriving at the Shut Pool/ Swan Pool there was a chap fishing the Bishops Wood bank which was a bit disappointing and unexpected. I have now come to realise you can acquire a day ticket for £5 ! for the Bishops Wood bank.
WUF Note: there are plenty of river Wye fisheries that offer cheaper day tickets. However, angler numbers on these beats are usually unrestricted.

We arrived at the top of the beat after lunch and in the dry. By 5.00pm, heavy rain had turned the swims into a slippery mess and we had to exercise great caution. We managed 6 good barbel to 8lb 8oz before conditions became unsafe and we left around 6.30pm. The long, wet walk up the hill to the car required a fair bit of puff from those of us drawing our pensions and the new part of the path was too muddy to walk on. However, the new car park and access was appreciated.
