Beautiful part of the world & a pleasure to fish though not the most productive of days. 2 x Barbel to 7lb & 8 x chub to just under 5lb. Cant wait to return.

2 Barbel, 8 Chub

First day on the river, hot and sunny day. Not ideal conditions, river low, gin clear with lots of streamer weed. 7lb barbel caught near evening, good condition fish.

1 Barbel

Fished from 10am to 5pm. Nothing for the first 3 hours. Strong South Westerly breeze. Caught 4 fish between 1pm and 2.30pm on a Daddylonglegs. Went quiet again for the rest of the time I was there. Hard work.

4 Trout

H caught her first ever fish tonight.
She learnt how to cast in the Bridge pool and then proceeded to catch a salmon parr and then a 1lb grayling all on her own. She even chose the fly. This was without the benefit of waders, just trainers and shorts.
Her sister A also fished but took the time to perfect her casting rather than bother with catching. Very elegant and perfect timing, next time the fish will need to watch out!

Afternoon session, last swim road side, rolling meat with x4 AAA fixed onto hook link 10" from hook. Just off the edge of fast water accounted for 10 Chub to 4 lbs and 3 Barbel to 5 1/2 lbs. Great fun but as all bites came from the same area I chose to set up straight lead on the tip rod and focused here. Spam out fished pellets as it turned to evening, took 3 cracking Barbel and 3 average Chub before I ran out of Spam! Maybe it was the constant loose feeding of 10mm elips pellets that did it today but I put my money on the Barometric pressure falling. Brilliant fishing for 5hrs!

6 Barbel, 13 Chub

This was my last day of the three Holme Lacy days. I had about three hours on the water due to needing to dry my tent, lunch and get back home.
Began on the float and caught three chub then went back to the car for the barbel rod. This was the most hectic fishing I have ever experienced with a barbel hooked within two seconds of may bait first hitting the water and keeping the same bait on for the second cast caught a lovely sized chub again immediately. This went on and only slowed slightly and I ended up with 4 barbel and 17 chub some in the 4 to 5lb range.

4 Barbel, 17 Chub

Very low water as could be expected. Plentiful fly life, sedge, cranefly, olives, stones but only three or four rises all the time I was there. I did oversleep though and get there a wee tad late. Was hoping for an explosion of olives but it never happened. Flies used, cdc emerger. Would of probably connected to more nymphing. Near the top of the brook someone has thrown what looks like a whole tree in a bundle which is blocking your way upstream.

10 Trout

Slow day but managed 1 good barbel and two nice chub touch ledgering. Lovely stretch of the Wye.

Best barbel was 9lbs 7ozs. All fish were caught on combinations of pellet. Bright sunny conditions with river level low.
