The river had been up in the previous few days, refreshing things in time for out day at Holme Lacy. The chub were in feeding mood but barbel were harder to come by and we ended with 6 whiskers to 7lb 10oz and 11 chub, all on pellet. Some of the barbel showed signs of being damaged by barbed hooks which is a great shame.

A delightful stretch of water which I selected in the hope my dad would catch his first barbel but the fishing was slow with only a couple of chub falling for meat that had to be bounced in the flow (they weren't interested in the static bait). 2 barbel came out at the top of the beat early evening around the 8lb mark. A great venue that I know produces quality catches on its day.

Great days fishing, 16 x chub to 6lb 7oz and 11 x barbel to 10lb, all fish taken with feeder on meat or pellets.
The river was in excellent condition and the wildlife made it a pleasurable beat to fish.
The Canoe traffic was light throughout the day with the exception of two clowns in an inflatable with an outboard motor going through noisily churning up all the weed in the afternoon. We only left when it got dark!

River was falling after a rise, was still quite coloured, which made wading a little more difficult. Tried, floating, intermediate and sinking tips with a variety of flies. Also fished downstream and across spinner, again with a variety of lures.
Saw plenty of trout, also saw an Otter whilst fishing the Hut pool.
Lovely stretch, good access, will return for another go, maybe take the trout rods next time too.
