The Day began full of promise, targeting the end of a glide where the extremely low clear river is being forced around the left hand side of the island leaving a now dry bank of rocks that would normally be under water. My chosen method, a 2oz block end feeder filled with hemp and caster on a running line behind a 3ft hook link down to a size 8 wide gape hook, where a piece of SPAM, some 20 to 25mm in size was mounted via a short 'hair'. All fish caught put up a good account of themselves and swam off strongly after being rested in the net before releasing. All my fish came to me in the morning prior to the armada of canoeist and paddle boarders, many of who decided to stop off for picnic, refreshments and a swim in the upstream fast water on the rocky bank before heading on their way. Upon leaving one family capsized in the fast water sending the canoes contents down through my swim! By which time my swim was devoid of fish anyway! so home time for me! If I can offer any advice, It would be to leave the river to the canoeists and paddle boarders at the weekend and plan any fishing trip during the week.

Day started with the target to avoid a blank, river looking horrendously in need of rain.

After several hours of looking and exploring we found the fish to be rather localised. Ended up being a very good day for chub, caught on both lead and float tactics.

1 recently deceased cock salmon found in the shallows (about 8-10lbs), possibly due to river

Having had a bit of a shocker the day before on Holme Lacy, this session was an unbelievable difference. We found where the barbel were living caught them throughout a hot cloudless day on float fished pellet.
One of my best days on the Wye. Will be back for sure.

A real ripper again today !!! With drought conditions now in a lot of Wales, tis time to really think about where to go, with also NRWs warning on water temps, 20degrees and game fishing stops simple as that!!!!!! ....The open rivers heat up quickly.... Bear it in mind folks, don't just aimlessly book a beat !!! I fished the little Clywedog again, cause its heavy tight canopy keeps it cool .... I temp dipped it, reading 14 DEGREES ....PERFECT !!!!
The fishing today between ten snd half two, was tough , but mega fun on tiny dries again.... There's no place for nymphs here ... to much disturbance and accuracy is key to success too, plus its not deep enough , along most of the beat ....
Five wee brownies to the net, including a futher two salmon parr and a dinky four inch grayling ...all nailed my dry fair and square ...great fun ....
A hot one today ..... was glad to get back to my truck, and a well earned cold diet coke ...Just the biz after a long stealthy wade upstream....Rain badly needed, but, it really tunes your finesse casting to a really high standard when your targeting brownies in seven inches of clear water !!! Right, cider time.... have a goooooooood weekend folks !!!!
