Beat:The Rectory Fishery

Fishing:Salmon

No. of Anglers:1

A good days fly fishing but only one salmon seen in The Rectory travelling through. Seven shad to 3.5lbs caught throughout the day on a size 10 Flamethrower that gave some good sport.
The condition of the banks by the Rectory and Neck are completely overgrown so that you cannot see the pot holes and caused many stumbles! The Rectory beat is described as a premier beat but the condition of this part of the banks would put it into the 4th division. Great shame as it is a lovely beat.

Crazy days fishing.
Lost 18 feeders on snags but found fish in fast water.
Met Don. What a lovely man and very helpful.
Bottom peg produced most. Had two chub on chips whist having takeaway fish and chips!

A few hours opening day course fishing - nothing caught but a fabulous stretch of water which I will be back to explore further. Large salmon jumping close to where we were fishing.

A very good first day on the Wye. Most fish caught early when overcast. Heavy open end feeder, time bomb method, pellet hook bait.

Overcast with very few flies about and not many fish rising. 5 trout were caught on beaded PT/Hares Ear nymphs and 3 on cdc sedge flies. Mostly 6-8 inches but one bigger fish of around 13 inches caught in a deep pool.

Booked a couple of evening tickets on this excellent beat. We arrived at 6pm but with only the occasional rising fish, decided to concentrate on the faster water. We had a few small browns and some salmon parr on nymphs but nothing substantial. Fish started to rise in the slower sections after 9pm and we had an hour or so of decent dry fly action to finish with. None of the trout caught were over half a pound but there were definitely bigger ones there. All the fish caught off the top fell to cdc emerger patterns and Adams.

Hard fishing with little happening. Managed 4 chub and an eel and at the end of play a beautiful barbel rattling the scales near 10lb, all caught on pellet.
