Both fish 11 to 12 inches on upstream nymph, lost a few others. A few Mayflies and Olives hatching but no consistent rise. Quite hard work but a beautiful day.

Arrived at the river at around 2pm to find prodigious hatches of olives and midges, along with the occasional mayfly. A few fish were rising but I decided to explore the faster water first, from where the best trout of the day (2 1/4lb) took my copper john nymph. Things really got going after about 4pm when a decent rise began to build. Finished at 7pm with a further 11 trout, all caught on CDC emergers and most between 1 and 2lb (all released).
I heard someone comment last week about the good quality of Usk trout this year. All the fish from Fennifach were in outstanding condition and fought like trout more than twice their size.
A wonderful few hours fishing on what is always a stunning stretch of river.

Nice 12" Brownie. Had another smaller fish and managed to rise 4 more and lost another including my fly. The two fish caught fell to a March Brown and Blue Winged Olive fished Duo above a PTN. Felt I should have done better, but a lovely stream in a beautiful location made up for that. Top of beat didn't yield anything possibly due to the field adjoining being let out for camping.

A good challenge for a wild stream fisherman.
Good hatch of fly, including mayfly.
These fish really know where to rise to make it most trickey for the fisherman.
Great value for money

Arrived around 9:30 and had the first fish within five minutes. A few Yellow May Duns coming off and the odd Mayfly. No fish rising consistently though and had to wait until mid afternoon for the next fish. About 3:30pm the Mayfly had built up a little and the remaining fish all came within the next hour before things died off again. The early fish came to a Greenwells, the remainder to a size 10 Adams.

Nothing caught, no rising fish, one or two mayfly showing and plenty of other flylife above the water. Disappointing beat with long stretches of shallow fast water with no obvious holding features. Luckily had also booked the next beat up so moved on quickly and enjoyed the next beat much more.

This was a tough days fishing with very little sign of rising fish and only a few mayfly showing. The water was slightly coloured which affected visibility in the deeper pools. Caught two trout (6-8") on dry fly towards the top of the beat where the footbridge crosses and one other very small (3") tiddler on a size 20 black nymph.

Low, clear and bright, nil return due to inept wading and too long 8ft rod, never the less good evening spent stalking several rising fish.
