Tried many dries and nymphs but nothing caught - lovely stretch of river though, will return I'm sure.

River higher than at same time previous years and also a bit coloured. Caught all fish on dry fly. Few flies about and no rises.

8 Trout

Quite a few fish rising, esp. in the lower half of the beat. The water is very cold after the snow melt of the previous week and we found the fish quite lethargic. Poplar pool provided a good trout of 1.5 lbs on a sz. 18 nymph, and also a smaller fish from Pwllygwaith. A most enjoyable day.

Fresh salmon 10lb from the Cafn Stream, The Nyth 10.00am.

Fished fly down top run and rock pool for salmon with no luck. Switched to trout rod and had 3 fish on size 12 dark olive above rock and at the chine. Fish 6oz to 1lb. All returned. Water had colour. J had 3 fish between 5 and 6pm, 2 stock fish at 1lb, all returned.

Excellent conditions. Mild (15-20C), overcast. Light downstream breeze. River at nice height - 10/11 inches on Brecon gauge and running clear. Water temp. 10C.
Hatch of olives continued from arrival at 10am, tailing off after 3pm. Had a superb day's fishing! 23 trout, all on dry upwing olive. 14 trout over 1lb with best 2 at 2lb each and one trout of about 2lb 4oz lost at the net!

Tony Richardson the beats gillie caught 14 pounder today on spinner.

1 Salmon

Tried everything but no luck, no sign of any fish, not even during the couple of (brief) hatches. Despite that, it was a lovely beat & an enjoyable day.

Fabulous conditions and superb water but sadly not a fish seen by any of the 3 rods on this beat today. Lets hope more fish arrive tomorrow as the conditions will stay good.
