Arrived at 2pm and walked the length of the beat and spun the margins for Pike without any success. Finally settled in to a deeper stretch above the top island without a single touch, river being low and clear .
Moved to lower pegs, baited and waited, lots of Chub type bites and only one landed to 5 lb, then a Barbel to 8lbs 11oz. Sadly bites died as the wind started to blow and we left at 9.30pm for the pub!
Guys fishing in the private stretches below us struggled too so we weren't doing anything wrong I dont think.

Fished hard all day for 4 barbel and 3 chub. Don't think I had a lot of fish in the swim, felt I did ok for the day. This swim could be fantastic on the right day, thanks again Don.

Beautiful river, water was low but still fish rising and although hard the fishing was rewarding. Will definitely be visiting again in the near future.

Cloudy but quite warm with a fresh breeze coming down river. Water height for trouting really good as this beat can be quite intimidating when the water is above a foot and a half on the Llanstephan gauge.
A moderate amount of flies picking off throughout the day - LDO's, BWO's, the odd sedge and yellow may. 11 trout caught and released all off the top on a variety of dries. Nothing spectacular in size (6" - 9") but feisty nonetheless. Really good hatch of olives for about 15 minutes around 6pm which resulted in a 14" grayling, best fish of the day.
After blanking on the Usk the day before a much needed boost to the fishing confidence and a lesson learnt in choosing the appropriate beat according to water levels.

Lovely beat! But rained heavily in the evening so was unable to carry on fishing. Couldn't see any fish but there was the occasional rise.

The day started slowly, mainly due to the crystal clear water and bright sunshine. Fished for the 1st 2 hrs with very little success. Fish were easily spooked and difficult to get near.
Shortly after mid day the cloud cover increased and the fish started showing intrest in my copper head #16 bug, fished french nymph style on about 4ft of v fine tippet. The next hour produced 3 wbt, 2 x 1 1/4lb and a really plump 15" fish not far off 2lb (all fish returned safely). Left shortly after 2pm

River low with a touch of colour. 2 trout, 1 x 1 1/4 lb, 1 9 inches - Czech nymph. Drowned sheep just above weir - landowner informed. Fished for 2 hours. A lot of bank growth including knot-weed. Nice day - thanks.

Having fished the beat last month with plenty of fly life and no fish rising I planned to fish the afternoon and evening. However, after seeing the weather forecast I fished the morning into the afternoon. Plenty of flies hatching but only of couple of fish rising. Caught and released 5 trout all to a size 12 mayfly nymph.

J caught 1 grayling about 2lbs on Adams and lost 1 trout 1 1/2 lb on goldhead nymph plus acouple of fingerlings
R caught 2 decent brownies one about 1/2lb and the other just 2lbs, both on goldhead nymphs. All returned.
Given the conditions and recent reports we were satisfied.
No rises, little airborne life. Rained most of day at about 12C. River low and clear.
Make no mistake wading here even at these levels is very tricky and potentially perilous if you want to cover the water. Not a lot of water, 4 rods would be too many. Costly for this part of the world all considered. To the contrary it would be good value for the salmon fishing if they have a run like last year.
