A stunning morning, heavy frost and brilliant sunshine, however very cold and very quiet on the fishing front. My first blank. We'll be back at the start of the season.

Beautiful day in stunning scenery saw one salmon roll but caught none. Have to fish this beat before the canoes take over. Took advantage of the free tickets before March 14th and a big thank you to the Wye & Usk Foundation, it was a wonderful adventure.

A very enjoyable day fishing, perfect conditions. Caught 2 pike approx 17lbs and 8lbs on 7ins soft shad lures right under the bank. We were also entertained by a pheasant shoot who lined the woods behind. Found a half eaten fairly fresh salmon carcase which would have been 12lbs on the bank. Are there otters present?

Water level pretty low so wading relatively easy. Access points to the river clearly market by yellow marks on stumps etc. Shame no fish, next time!

Spooked three fish as I entered the lower gate, was this an omen? Searched from 09.30 - 14.30, no hatch, no fish showed and none caught. Note to WUF, are you aware of the large tree fall and consequent log jam towards the end of the beat? It's a big 'un! This could have been at the "falls", I'm not sure as unable to pass either side due to knee deep bog.

Beat:White House

Fished White House on Monday 11th March for 3 hours without a bite. Bitterly cold upstream wind made fishing very uncomfortable. River was fishable. Returned Wednesday 13th March for second session. Cold but wind had dropped. Three Chub on luncheon meat around 2lb made the trip worthwhile. Look forward to returning again later in the year.

We fished 2 swims just below the point. River was very low so there were not a lot of accessible swims. Fished with pellets on a feeder and had one barbel (7lb) and 2 chub (3lb each). Tried several other baits but without any luck.
This is a stunning stretch of river with great access. It would have been nice to see more swims cut out along the beat however would recommend this stretch to anyone.

Beat:Whitney Court

Fishing:Coarse

Another challenging but very enjoyable day on Whitney Court. Very low, clear and cold is always going to make things a little tricky. Fortunately the pike were game during the day and I managed a couple of low doubles. The chub then came out to play in the last hour before dark. Saw a juvenile otter when we first arrived and had a large dog otter scare the living daylights out of me just as it was getting dark.
