Delightful setting but opportunity to fish marred by jungle conditions, particularly at the top end. Too much time spent looking for access points. Barbed wire a problem but understand about stock control - biggest issue was rampant balsam and general brambles etc. It should be possible to fit plastic piping to several stretches of barbed wire to ease access. It doesn't represent good value. Our catch return includes 2 juvenile grayling so the true figure for 2 experienced anglers is even worse. It was low water which didn't help but we suspect a limited population as most of the pools produced nothing. We did however lose a few trout and grayling which would have lifted the return. Method: nymphs and dries.

River low and clear, saw very little fish movement. We tried several spots but with little success. For a water that can normally produce some good catches a very disappointing day, especially at the increased price.

Seemed like a perfect weather day, misty start followed by sun with little breeze. Water peaty coloured, possibly from the tannin in the falling oak leaves. Plenty of those!
Fished from 7.30 to 11.30 then from 14.30 to 18.30 on the whole beat where wading and casting was easiest. Or rather, I practiced my casting for those hours. Tried all the dries on the menu and a few nymphs but not a single take.
Highlight of the day was an otter staring at me from about four feet away but he didn't offer any advice. Just a nice day to out there.
