Not a good day. The river rose 6" during late morning and early afternoon, chances being almost zero in my book. The lunchtime Rectory catches would suggest otherwise, but the beat is downstream and perhaps the water had not reached there.
I was a little frustrated that it was not classed as a wash off. Another frustration is the condition of infrastructure on the beat. All the wading boards are in a serious state of disrepair, I could not get on the upper boards at all.
One day someone will get hurt.
However, I think the real problem is that I am not catching fish and S.E. is....

Interesting beat with a great variety of water. Started very early and fished the Rock pool very thoroughly for no result only to be shamed by Simon Evans who fished it after me and pulled out 2 fish.
Weather remained awful all day and the river rose quite a bit. I then concentrated on the gravel catch, which is a lovely bit of water and was finally rewarded with a beautiful fresh salmon of aprox 12lb.
Thanks for all the advice and direction Simon.

All caught on klinkhammers and parachute adams. Water quite brown getting progressivley worse during the day due to high rain fall

My lucky run ended today. Torn waders on the barbed fence (could landowner do something about it?) and vastly limited my chances for a big fish. On the positive side I landed and released 2lbs sea trout and nice 17” WBT. Water 2ft rising to 3ft by evening. There is always another day. Thank you.

Rain and wind all day, one on, then off, to a pheasant tail, a couple of tugs, that was it for the day. Great location.

Second time here and again I was murdered by the Chub, fished 3pm until 8pm due to the fact the monsoon conditions earlier in the day dampened my enthusiasm along with everything else, again limited access to pegs due to treacherous banks and higher river level, dying to see this beat at Normal Summer Level.

The conditions were ok. We arrived at the beat at 9am and had rain rain and more rain. For such a long beat there are very few pegs and it is very over grown. It really could be a very nice strech. We had 2 barbel, 1 chub and one eel in the morning, nothing else till 4pm. Then we had 4 barbel each smallest 2lbs the rest 5 to 8.5lbs. We had a break and came back at 9pm and had a further 2 barbel each, total for the day 14 barbel, 2 chub, 1 eel and one dace river rising in the evening.

16 Barbel and 19 Chub caught between all 4 anglers. Excellent days fishing, although it rained all day. The banks were very slippery and could do with improving. We can't wait for our next visit to the Wye.
