My first visit to this beat. What an impressive variety of water - fast runs, gravel flats, pools - something for everyone. Caught 4 WBT @ 10" - 12" on #14 parachute Adams plus 1 OOS dace from the flats above the bridge.

My thanks to the ladies at the WUF office. I asked for easy wading and that's just what they delivered, making it a very enjoyable days fishing.

No fish caught. Arrived in the evening and fished for a couple of hours. River very low. Steady hatch and a few fish rising, but almost impossible to get into range for a cast as they were so easily spooked in these conditions.

Area:Upper Wye

Beat:The Rectory Fishery

Fishing:Trout (River)

Arrived at 9am, began fishing rock pool, water low for time of year, 4-5 small trout of between 5-10" and a very energetic dace of around 12" all on a gold head hares ear and returned unharmed.
After lunch I spent the afternoon fishing dry fly at and below the bridge 3 small trout caught on a greenwells spider, all returned, one fish with recient injury (classic pike bite pattern)first signs of a mayfy hatch around 4 o-clock as I was leaving.
Thanks for a fascinating day on a truly beautifull river.

Stunning beat with good parking and access to the river.
Decent olive hatch pretty much throughout the day along with sherry spinners and a trickle of Mayfly.
Concentrated on the top half of the beat in the faster water. Managed 5 wbt on olive nymphs, best a really handsome 12" fish. All returned safely.

Stayed at the Coach House in Brecon which deserves a mention for a memorable cooked breakfast!

1 wbt, about 10 inches on a mayfly imitation. Lots of fish rising, but despite trying lots of different flies struggled to get much interest.

Cold, blustery wind, showers. Caught a small chub on a dry fly, just below the bridge, otherwise quite a slow day, with only 4 w.b.t. around the 10 inch mark. Nice day. All fish taken on dries.
