2 missed takes in the Maddox to a yellow and black 2" tube on a sunk line. Salmon showing in the Vanstone Pool. Probably a little too high at 1 foot 2" on the Fownhope gauge, but the top end of the beat fished beautifully.

Beautiful beat and sunny dry weather. Small hatch around 12.30pm but no fish rising.
Caught two small (8 inch) brownies fishing goldhead black and green nymphs from the Upper beat. Water low, cold and slightly coloured which might account for the lack of rising fish.

Fishing:Trout (River)

I fished from about 3pm till 7pm on the Olchon, I know a bit late in the day for this time of year. I had missed the hatches for the day but fished Klink and dink. I caught 11 WBT up to around the 10-11 inch mark. Not the biggest fish but certainly good sport.
Longtown has be be one of the best place in the UK to stay if you want affordable wild brown trout fishing. Well Done to the WUF and MFA (Monnow Fisheries Association).
On a another note, I fished the main river Monnow the day before (non WUF beat) and the was a very good hatch of Grannom, so that should start to get the fish looking up.

Just the one fish between us today. Could only squeeze in a couple of hours before the drive back home. It was one of the few fish seen all weekend rising and a quick change to a klinkhammer saw another good fish of 17inches come to the net. This is a fantastic beat that keeps producing quality fish visit after visit.

Beat:Lyepole

Nice day on the Lugg at lyepole but with a cool wind which was fairly brisk at times. I caught 5 grayling upto 15 inches and my brother had three to 12 inches plus a fair few small grayling (5 inches) all taken on nymphs. No sign of any trout which surprised me as 2 weeks ago i caught trout there in less favourable conditions.

Nothing hatching, nothing rising, nothing cought. Incompetence shone through today!!
A lovely place to pass a day nevertheless.
