As we drove past Llyn Clywedog we observed a flat calm over the whole of the reservoir. However, on arrival at Bugeilyn there was a steady breeze creating a nice ripple on the water. Despite the cloudless sky fish were rising to what we worked out to be very small brown beetles, about the quarter of the size of a Coch-Y-Bonddu. After trying to match the hatch and only getting the fish to splash at our offerings we changed to basic hares ear pattern which the fish couldn't resist. By 3pm we decided to get out of the heat and take shelter in the boat house for refreshments. Fished again from 5pm for another couple of hours. Once again saw the Hen Harriors.

Beautiful stretch parked right next to river, tricky fishing very low and clear. Many lost fish, would return

An excellent day at Penpont with the help of fishing guide Kim Tribe. We began our day just beneath the bridge and after a slow start I had a nice trout on a midge dry fly. We then moved down to the pocket water in the section called "End of Fence" and did well there bringing in a couple of fish each using a Coachman pattern. We then worked our way up to the runoff from the Bridge pool and had success using a Pheasant Tail nymph. All the fish were in the 9"-11" range I would say.

The setting at Penpont is absolutely gorgeous and the beat is quite long and fairly easy to access for most of its length.

A big shout out to the guide, Kim Tribe, who is very knowledgeable and helpful. I am still a bit of a beginner - especially when it comes to consistent casting but Kim is able to blend instruction with fishing and keeps you active the whole day long. I will definitely fish with Kim again.

Fished an old favourite eleven till four ...She is super low, we're in need of a good bit of rainfall !!! Above the bridge is super slow stealthy wading !!! Average water depth a foot !! Find tippets and tiny dries !!!
Some fish nailing terrestrial from off the sycamore leaves ....Greenfly abound the underside of sycamore leaves in summer !!! A good pattern to bung on when it's breezy under sycamore branches that are over hanging.....
Dry fly sport was sublime if not incredibly slow with stealthy wading !! Walking like Neil Armstrong on the moon .... every step had to be placed down carefully!!! Spooky alert fish in the low low water of the Edw .... Hot too, think it got uo to around 23 today ... lots of insects on the go ... hawthorn , baetis, large dark olives and some of thf smaller sedges .......
Slippery fish today .... eleven made it to the net, but also a good seven or eight didn't...tis how it goes sometimes hey !!!
Found two dead stone loach .... maybe the low water and high temperatures??? All fully intact, no bite marks, nothing ??? What is noticeable is the build up of algae here .... Three good days flushing it away is muchly needed ....
On stone turning, plenty of caddis, baetis nymph, stone crawlers and saw one tubby bullhead .... Always nice to see ....
A fun five hours, a good few to my net on dries, but boy oh boy she's low !!! If I'd recommend a wild stream to a visiting angler at the mo, it would be the Arrow at Court of Noke or the Hindwell at Knill ...Both hold their water very well !!
Anyway, hot weather means a trip to the fridge and a cool bottle of cider ....Cheers folks!!!!

Nymphs in fast water accounted for the trout. Fished 2/3 of the beat down from the waterfall at the upper limit. Insects in great numbers all day with clouds of what looked like midges over the fastest water, but only glimpsed one rise. Briefly switched rods and put a duster then a F Fly over the spot. No joy.
