Significant trickle of mayfly all afternoon and decided to target big rising fish with dries. Could not get any takers on flat water, but found some good sport in the slightly broken water in the pool upstream of the bridge, solid fish, two over 2lb, two close to it. All on french partridge with a stiff palmer hackle. Decided to try a zonker streamer at 7pm for a change, but nothing doing. There were some big fish close to the bank on the lower part of the beat, but steep and overgrown banks prevented access - and I am pretty intrepid. Will be back, the trout are so fit and feisty.

A bright afternoon & low water made for difficult fishing. A fair amount of fly hatching, including a few mayflies, but no sign of a fish, not even fry. Prospecting with dry fly & nymph brought no response. Copious amounts of filamentous algae lying in the margins & balsam on the banks. On the plus side I was greeted with a fly-past by a kingfisher.
