Beat:The Leen
Fishing:Winter Grayling
No. of Anglers:1
My first time on this beat and below freezing when I arrived but the sun was showing and a good day was in prospect. I fished beaded nymphs and shrimp patterns under an indicator. A couple of fish were taken from the tail of a pool towards the bottom of the beat but then nothing for some time as I worked up the river. Later in the afternoon another pool towards the top end yielded 7 more fish including a beautiful specimen of 18", by some way my personal best. All fish took the point nymph.

A great day for the pike angler with a 14lb 5oz and a 21lb 6oz landed. The barbel angler lost a really good barbel and landed a chub around the 5lb mark.
We will definitely be back.

Apart from shotts, 10 x grayling of which 2 good ones and 6 out of season trout. A mixture of trotting and bugging in water which was still very high, but hard fishing and we didn't really contact a good shoal. Most of the trout had not spawned.
10 Grayling
