Fished the afternoon and caught 1 stocked brown trout of about 3/4 lb on an olive gold head nymph. Missed a couple more on March Brown patterns - first time out and pretty rusty.... Surprised to see very few flies on the water on a nice afternoon.

1 trout caught & released late afternoon using a nymph fly. River was clear and weather fine and dry. Saw a couple of other trout rousing late afternoon but no further catches.

3 small trout, small hatch of mid Olives but nothing to get the fish on the fin. Wind changed direction to a westerly but still cold with no warmth in the air. Any day on the river is a good day.

Unless you drive a 4x4 and drive down to the river bank, this beat is a long walk down and a steep walk back to the other parking spot.
I made the mistake of not carrying my spinning rod down to the river, which was unfortunate because there are only two reasonable stretches for the fly and that below the islands was a bit difficult for me to access. I did see a fresh salmon so to that extent it was an acceptable first day out this year and it sorted out my rusty old joints!

A lovely day of fishing - beautiful water, perfect antedote to the rat-race - but sadly saw nothing until I disturbed a fish in slack water of 2ft depth as I was about to climb out of the river at the exit above Martin's pool. I nearly trod on it, showing just how inactive fish seemed to have been that day.

Beautiful beat to fish a fly on and a bonus being able to drive the whole length. No fish seen or caught but a very pleasant day in perfect conditions. Thank you W&UF!

Words just can't describe this place. Deafening silence is the first thing that hits you when you get out of the car, and as you are forced to use every other sense trying to understand how you got here and what's around you, it's a good while before you even start to think about the fishing! We saw the odd rise until about 11am when there was a good hatch of olives and some breeze blown food from the marginal grasses. They are not easy fish, but with patience you will catch a few. We had 6, all on dries, and left at lunchtime for some food etc - once we left we were reluctant to go 'back in' and attempt to relive those first minutes again, and so we turned our back on Llanidloes and said thank you for another year or so. I think I've said it before, Bugeilyn should be a compulsory experience for a fisherman.
