Fly fishing 0900- 1330. Sunny, cold easterly breeze - not the best direction. Very few fish rising and very quiet for first 2 hours. 1 brown ( returned) and 2 rainbows on buzzer. Nice to see Environment Agency bailiffs checking rod licences.

Hard day started at 8.30 first bite or any thing to be honest until 16.00 then landed two rainbows weather
Was fine a dry but the wind was up all day blowing up from the dam towards the old bridge at the top . Water level is low . Still loads of waste line and packets discarded picked up what I could .

Hot day with the water level down made fishing tough. Not a thing on the nymphs but put a dry on and tried some prospecting and hooked 5 fish, 4 of whom employed a self administered catch and release technique !!

Never seen the river so low, fished for about an hour then decided it wasn’t happening and not in the best interest of the fish so left early. Lots of herons and cormorants around taking advantage too!

Evening fishing , getting to be a real challenge getting in over the brambles , barbed wire and nettles , the barbed wire hides in the other stuff { another tear in the waders } . But at the bottom end downstream once in you can walk along way upstream in the river, the fish have got wise and rise just the other side of downed trees and branches in the way but with effort and some degree of perseverance it can be very good if not a little like jungle warfare.. All taken on Adams of different sizes .

River looking great. Arrived around 10:30ish. Abundant insect life but nothing rising. Fished the faster water with various nymphs with no luck. Moved up past the pumping station, still no luck. However one of the pools further up fish were rising ALOT! This was about 3pm. Fished a couple of emergers and one was taken and he put up a great fight, about 8-10 inches. Sadly he shook the hook which was annoying. Nothing after that.
Went back to the faster water and fished another emerger and got another take but again shook the hook pretty quickly, think he was a bit bigger.
Even though I blanked…. Again it’s a great beat well worth the day out

Water level quite low but a beautiful day out. A lot of insect life including various mayfly hatches during the day. Fish taking dry fly but not nymphs. Water in good condition a fabulous stretch of river. Beat owner called us at the end of the day to check all was well and that we had a good day - fantastic value for money.
