The river was very low and it rained all day, so not the ideal conditions. Some pegs were treturous due to the slippery mud. The fish weren’t really interested until the sun moved around behind the trees at about 7pm, but thankfully they turned up and i caught [and lost] a few. Hopefully the weather will be a bit kinder on my next trip down!

I have fished this spot since 1985 as a child on/off when a salmon syndicate used to lease it. It's always been a great spot for chub on the floating crust. The best water level to fish however is the lower wall level on the weir gardens side. So the recent drought we have is not really perfect. 6 great chub however and a big pike around 10-15lb chasing my sons rapala J11. My biggest pike from here is 27lb on a Roach dead bait. It's great to see salmon pink also in the fast water and trout jumping too. I didn't try barbel as this is a new species in this location. So it was great to bring the family over from ireland to savour my old haunt and the wye usk foundation have done a great job in keeping this fishery in a healthy condition.

Fished the 2 swims just downstream of the 4x4 parking spot. The nearest of the 2 produced 2 barbel of 6 & 7lbs. The next swim along produced 2 small chub. Also hooked and lost 2 other barbel over the course of the day. All fish caught looked in good condition and went back well. Used luncheon meat & halibut pellets, on a swimfeeder packed with ground bait & hemp. River is looking low but there are still a few spots with enough water to be worth fishing. Having fished upstream of the 4x4 spot yesterday, would definitely recommend going downstream. Beautiful stretch of river. Lovely day had by all.

Fished the corner upstream of the 4x4 parking spot. Used luncheon meat & halibut pellets, on a swimfeeder packed with ground bait & hemp. Hooked and lost a barbel, but had 2 small chub (both around 2-3lbs). Fish in good condition, went back well. River is looking low but there are still a few spots with enough water to be worth fishing. Beautiful stretch of river. Lovely day had by all.

Fished the day before without a bite. Really bright and hot with the river running really low. Today on the other hand was far better. Myself and my friend Neils ended up with 4 barbel to 6lb10oz and 6 chub the heaviest coming in at 5lb. The barbel came as the the sun was setting , all caught on Hinders dumbells with PVA mesh sticks loaded with a mix of hemp, pellets and groundbait. Neils caught 3 of the chub trotting 8mm coarse pellets in the swim across from the Botanical Gardens flood wall. Barbell were caught across from the boathouse and further downstream.

It was a very hot day and the river was exceptionally low. There was lots of activity from small fish.
All the larger fish were caught in low light at the end of the day. They came after a small rainstorm, and were in deeper water.
Chub was 3lb ish 2 barbs between 6 and 10. (Weight was guessed to get fish back quick).

Struggled at first a lot of canoes going past. When they finally stopped used feeder and cheesy garlic pellets for the barbel and some chub. Also trotted pellet for some of the bigger chub of the day.
